Did anyone see the History Channel's program on the Bird flu
last night?
It was chilling. If you get a chance, watch it!
In the very beginning they point out how underprepard the US is; that other nations are far ahead of us in preparedness.
They also had a piece about martial law, and the futility of it.

The US only has enough Tamiflu for 1% of citizens.... the UK, 25%... and Canada 17%....
They predict that the borders will be handling US citizens going to Canada in droves.

This was heart attack serious.
Well done, History Channel!!!

1. Yes I saw it
mind numbing what could happen to our country if something like this happened. Makes you start to think how you will take care of your own family if this happens. My five day emergency kit ain't going to cut it.

2. I'm not a pharmacist, but I don't think Tamiflu is going to help
prevent the flu. It's my understanding that the antiviral Tamiflu just reduces the days you are sick by just a few days. So, instead of being sick for 7 days, you are only sick for 5. Any doctor or pharmacist care to comment?

7. More Right Wing FUD!
The Administration wants us scared, distracted, huddled in our houses instead of being active in wrenching the right to vote back from the Repugs.

10. I don't think that the avian flu is a RW scare tactic
It may be part of it, but this was a program basically PUTTING DOWN the US response and preparedness.(or lack therof)

This was a program interviewing many top scientists and medical institutions, and their basic response to the avian flu was that hey, it may be nothing, but if it becomes pandemic, there is basically very little we can do about it. It will cause worldwide devastation to commerce, infrastructure, etc.
They even mentioned martial law and quarantine, which they said would be futile.

Bush's military response will be a flop.
