God hates Baptists...strikes down minister....
Texas pastor electrocuted during baptism
Accident occured when 33-year-old priest reached for a microphone

Updated: 12:34 a.m. ET Oct. 31, 2005
WACO, Texas - A pastor performing a baptism was electrocuted inside his church Sunday morning after adjusting a nearby microphone while standing in water, a church employee said.

The Rev. Kyle Lake, 33, was stepping into the baptistery as he reached out for the microphone, which produced an electric shock, said University Baptist Church community pastor Ben Dudley.

Water in a baptistery usually reaches above the waist, said Byron Weathersbee, interim university chaplain at Baylor University.

18. "good" in what way? hey, I'm philosophically opposed to rightwing
fundamentalism, but thinking someone getting electrocuted in front of 800 people is a "good" thing?

good grief, have you no humanity at all?

I can disagree with a group without laughing at their deaths.

31. O and a hush falls over the thread as rational, well-meaning posters
attack the knee-jerk reactions of a few zealous coffee-drinkers like myself.

Fine, you don't find it funny. Well neither do I.... now.

But i'll admit, when i first read this that i F*ckin died laughing, died laughing in a small pool holding a microphone. Im sorry, but when an outdated cult-ish rituals gets you killed, it just means that you should have stayed home.

And thats it, I'm done. I wondered when i posted that too.. i was like "now that was a stupid knee-jerk reaction, it IS funny, but a man lost his life and i feel for his family..... I wonder if someone will call me evil or say i have no 'humanity'... nah, no way, ppl on DU understand"

You are disappointed w/me, and i'm disappointed w/ you. Can we leave it there, please? B/c you are assuming things about me which simply are not true and thats makes me angry.

10. just curious: if an atheist were electrocuted, and I made jokes...
just how tolerant would the atheists be?

at any rate, it DOES point to a lack of understanding of electricity. Many people never consider microphones as conductors.

28. It's a very understandable mistake. I once touched a microphone and a
lamp at the same time and got a real jolt. It's not necessarily intuitive that microphones are so dangerous.

The man was obviously a martyr.

Gawd is sending a message, here.

We'd be wise to look for the devine communique given to us in the form of a sizzling corpse.

21. I think seven at the jubilee, two on a mountain somewhere, and a girlscout
was killed by a falling tree or something.

Not to mention the dozens hospitalized with heatstroke waiting for Bush to show-up for his speech.

Any school age kid knows better than to handle electricity while in water. Obviously this guy didn't. Sympathies to his family. Tragic ending for such a young man.

This was sad story. The guy had a wife and young children. However, it is incredibly stupid to touch any electrical apparatus connected to 120 vac while immersed in water.
