Ha Ha Ha! Judge Alito's Family Poses with a Portrait ---pix>>>

Did Karl take a mental health day today? I can't imagine how they allowed this to happen.

The family of Judge Samuel Alito, daughter Laura (L), son Philip (C) and wife Martha (R), stand underneath a portrait of former president Bill Clinton as they watch President Bush nominate Alito to the Supreme Court in the White House, October 31, 2005. (Mannie Garcia/Reuters)

29. Apart from the Clinton portrait joke...
you know what? You may think I'm weird but for me they are actually looking like a nice normal family. I could imagine my daughter going out with this good looking boy or be friend with the girl. Of course, I could be totally wrong about these people. You can't watch inside their heads and hearts but I think they look much more normal than John Robert's family or other right wing people you see on TV.

I'm sorry, but they very idea that this man's family will have their lives go on as usual while poor women and minorities are in danger of being raked over the coals as we're dragged back decades in history just makes me sick. I'd be horrified if my daughter dated this man's son.

35. Maybe it's just that I don't "get" this American conservatism
We have conservative people here in Europe (I'm German and live in France) too and I'm not a big friend of their life style but it's just not as ideological as it is in the US. I mean our French right-wing government would never be against abortion or mix religion and politics. That's just something very difficult for us Europeans to understand.

37. here, conservatism has been turned into "religious conservativism"
Even regular conservatism irks me - being against change, progress because it upsets your little world (or seems to) - not very smart in this day and age.

38. I don't like conservatism either
But I really would like to understand this obsession with religion in the USA. Here it's something totally private, that never affects your professional life and is rarely even discussed with people outside your own family.

47. so would I. So would I.
It's become huge here. There are many reasons this could be true. I can't even begin to list them here.

I have some friends in Europe and I love the way they are just baffled by the religious stuff here!

41. Not that it matters
but I don't think they boy's all that good looking. Maybe it's the expression on his face, perhaps it's the bad haircut, but I think he looks like what we here in the USA call a "dork."

The daughter, on the other hand, is pretty.

That being said, yeah, they do look fairly normal.

Sorry, Alito, you've still got to go-go, but your family looks very nice. No Stepford looks there.

Laura, get a clue and have a sit-down talk with Ms. Alito about nice clothes. And, Jenna, take a real good look. You don't have to show 5 yards of cleavage in order to be attractive.

42. When I was at the White House in '98
for the Christmas Tree (I had an ornament on it), the thing that cracked me up the most was that Bush I's portrait was behind a tree behind a door. You really had to look for it. I thought it was pretty cool--it wasn't like their campaign was nice or anything.

I'm suprised that Clinton's isn't hiding behind something, too.
