of the Memorial Service at the DC AME Church. I'm watching to hear Dorothy Heights and Julian Bond. Lovely to see Kennedy and Conyers. Poor Frist could not sing along to Lift Every Voice and Sing.

2. Looked like one of those bad Hercules movies. |

If I was an elected official and was going to a scripted (and I do not mean in a negative way) event of this somber importance I would, at the least, bone up on the lyrics of the most important singalong in the program so I could lip it. Most of those folks were just moving their lips.

The Rethug from Kansas. No doubt he's putting his name in the 2008 hat. Conyers gets a standing ovation before he says a word. Respect you lovely decent man. Edit - correct headline and add sentence.

and she didn't care one whit about the 2 minute limit.
"I'm just getting warmed up" in two minutes.
94 years old and as cool as it gets. I just loved her- wish I had a copy of her piece.
on edit: Julia Carlson- sorry

13. When they carried Rosa's casket out of the Rotunda... |
|
...the hymn they were singing had such incredible rhythm and was so well done! :headbang:
It was a "bluesie sounding hymn".. I feel like a space cadet right now though, because I can't remember the words.. :eyes:

18. I love Langston but Claude McKay |
|
was my poet of that period.
If we must die, let it not be like hogs Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot, While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs, Making their mock at our accursed lot. If we must die, O let us nobly die, So that our precious blood may not be shed In vain; then even the monsters we defy Shall be constrained to honor us though dead! O kinsmen we must meet the common foe! Though far outnumbered let us show us brave, And for their thousand blows deal one deathblow! What though before us lies the open grave? Like men we'll face the murderous, cowardly pack, Pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back!

22. Lots of hypocrites were there |
|
but they couldn't spoil that send off. I was in tears as they sang We Shall Overcome because of the joy of the occasion and the reality of New Orleans post Katrina. Someone should tell W that black people are democrats. That was too obvious. Rummy was probably thinking of how to overcome what we overcame.
