I'm sorry about her husband, but we're facing a national crisis of Biblical proportions if Scalito winds up on the SCOTUS bench.

2. She can.
I doubt she will, though she's probably pissed that Dumbfuck* picked another white male for the court.

3. It's her fault she is there in the first place. My regret is that she
won't have to live through another 50 years of what she caused.

4. I think that's a little unfair.
She's 75 years old...she's more than served her time. Her husband has Parkinson's, and I think it's understandable that she wants to spend what time he has left with him. If she does want to come back, I would absolutely applaud her, but when you're 75, sometimes you want to retire.

Flame away, but she's a Republican. She wanted to retire under a Republican. It happens.

5. I was referring to her vote in Bush v Gore. I don't expect her to work
until the day she dies. But she helped put Bush in that office and had to know what type of judges he would appoint. He told us judges like Scalia and Thomas--not judges like O'Conner. Bush's picks will likely be on the Court for 30 plus years. And it will take a couple of decades after that to fix anything they may change. It seems unfair that O'Conner won't be here to witness what mess she helped create--unless she lives to be 125 years old.

6. Well, I very much disagree with her vote on Bush v. Gore.
Though I'm a liberal Democrat, and she's a moderate Republican. Aside from abortion, the fact stands that most Republicans would rather work under a Republican and vica-versa. While she's obviously not crazy about Bush, she doesn't see him as the threat that liberals do, so she doesn't see her decision as seriously jeopardizing the future of the country. Al least that's my view on it; I don't claim to speak for her.

7. I guess I just don't buy moderate Repubs being faithful to their party.
It has been overtaken by religious extremists who have perverted everything they stand for. If that happened to our party, I would feel no obligation to stand by and be faithful to the party.

8. I agree,
though I think the situation might be a bit more complicated when you're a justice of the SCOTUS than if you're just an average citizen. I don't pretend to know O'Connor at all, so I probably shouldn't be speculating on her personal relationship with the BFEE. All I could tell was that she wasn't happy with Roberts, and she's proably not happy with Alito either.
