Dear Senator Reid,
I am writing to encourage you to take whatever action is necessary on the Alito nomination. In spite of his falling house of cards, it seems that the President is not going to play ball with Democrats. To give in on this nomination is not only unnecessary, it could do grevious damage to our two party system to say nothing of our republic itself.
I am very encouraged by your words and actions since you became Senate Minority Leader. Your jujitsu on the Miers nomination was brilliant in conception and execution.
Now, with Alito before the Senate as SCOTUS nomination it is time to draw the line. The filibuster is designed for this very situation, as a final check on an out-of-control executive branch. If you need to filibuster and the Repubs pull the trigger, you should respond with whatever action is appropriate to reign them in. The severity of the Senate crisis will pale in comparison to the whole country's crisis if Alito is allowed to sit on the court.
Please, sir. It's time to stand up to the bullies. The time for appeasement has ended. I sincerely hope that there will be no need for a compromise this time. Democrats must act.
Thank you very much and best wishes to you.
Sincerely yours,
