Do you think some Senate moderates will back off supporting this guy? |
|
I wonder if some like Snow, Chafee, Collins, for example might not want to get too cozy with the extreme RW on this SC matter given the chances that their '06 elections might tank if they are tied to these creeps. I can't help but think even some moderates might be wishing Bush hadn't offered Alito up.
Am I off the reservation here?

1. Interesting observation |
|
You have something with the New England Republicans. This sort of in-your-face anti-Roe nominee can't be to their liking.
I'm wondering, my own self, if Specter won't allow the Dems on the committee a little leeway in getting good witnesses. That's probably wishful thinking on my part. I sure don't expect him to come out against Alito.

2. since a majority of people |
|
are pro Roe v Wade, and, I believe, a sizable majority in the northeast are pro-choice, Snow, Chafee, etc, will vote their constituency and not the repuke line.

3. The three you named, along with Specter and Murkowski, |
|
are the only pro-choice Republicans in the Senate, IIRC.
We shall see.

At least the only ones with enough guts to admit it, anyway. Let's see if they have the courage of their convictions. None of them have really stepped out of line on any other issues of import.

8. Well, they are Republicans. |
|
You don't expect them to agree with us on much, do you? :)
But I join you in hoping that they all have the courage to stand up to these nutcases.

9. Specter needs to remember he needs stem cell research! |
|
It seems to be that should have something to do with Alito in the Supreme Court.

but had a crash about two weeks ago, and lost it. Before I put the time into reassembling all the information, I thought I'd try the easy way. Does anyone have the contact information for the 14 Senators who came up with the filibuster compromise??
It seems to me that we need to contact them, over and over, until this nomination is resolved one way or the other.
Thanks for the help.

10. Remember that we have some Democrat senators in deep red states. |
|
They will be under pressure from their constituents to confirm.

12. Specter, Snow, Collins and even Chafee never abandon Bush |
|
on the big issues. Chafee's big fight will be the GOP primary in RI and so he may try to endear himself to conservatives by supporting him.

13. Just what we need; another Scalia. |

I think one is too much, if not worthy of impeachment. They want to turn the S Ct into a partisan branch, then let's get rid of the undesirable, unethical (quack) and partial member of the judiciary. For that member all judicial members of the Federalist Society should be impeached. They are, by definition, anything but impartial and therefore in violation of the Federal Code of Conduct for the Judiciary.

14. 33 senate seats are up for grabs. Republicans now hold a 55-44-1 |
|
majority. If they pick up five seats, they'll have a filibuster-proof majority. If Republicans can hold on to just 50 seats, they will maintain majority (Cheney breaks a tie for them)Democrats need 51 seats to become majority.

that if we pick up 5 in the Senate, Snowe or Collins will turn independent to give us the majority. No evidence to back this up--- although Collins is my neighbor and friend so I have a little influence ;)
