Video: Obama on TDS? GREAT response to "what would Dems do diff. in Iraq?"
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 10:12 AM by Brotherjohn
Anyone see a video of this posted? (not on Crooksandliars.com yet)

I only caught a bit of it. Jon Stewart asked Obama the standard "What would you as a Democrat do different in Iraq?"

Obama first pointed out he was against the war from the beginning. But then he said something like "This is a difficult situation. It's like someone drove a bus into a ditch. We have to... first, we have to fire the bus driver... (HUGE applause). Then..." and he went on about setting a timeline to get out of there.

But with the "bus wreck/fire the bus driver" line, he instantly, and cleverly, made the point that Dems didn't make this problem (although okay, too many voted for it). BUSH did. And it's a problem for which there is no easy solution. The fact of the matter is, though, that we need to "fire the bus driver" and try to fix HIS problem. He has proven he can't.

Because Democrats don't have a quick fix for the massive problem that Bush has created is no reason to dismiss them. Indeed, the very fact that Bush has created a massive problem for which there IS no easy fix gives us every reason to remove him, and his party, from consideration in the matter.

2. That bus in the ditch metaphor is from an Eisenhower ad
During the '52 election, I believe it was.

The problem is so massive that no single quick fix is in order, such a massive problem deserves a deliberate careful approach.

FURTHERMORE, it was careless simple approach that got us into it and that approach is most definitely not ensuring an unattainable success either.

Man I am tired of this crap!!! What we need to say is, hey its nto going so well, hesn't gone well yet, you fundies have the burden of proof casue you got us into this.PERIOD>

8. He has been hard at work on less popular issues
working on AIDS in Africa, securing loose nukes all across the world and fighting the bushies on environmental attacks against the poor. He is very intelligent and very hard working. I'm so glad he is my senator.
