Just a small observation here... |
|
I wasnt around during the '04 primaries, but...
If we're already going at each others throat full force now... I cant imagine what 2007/2008 will be like.

4. I hope there is a serious, knock-down, drag-outside primary fight. |
|
As opposed to 2004, when the Democratic candidates tried hard to respect each other, when the electorate chose the one they thought the most electable, when that nominee failed to rise to the kind of battle that Rove & Bush fight, and when we then got four more years of one of the worst and most corrupt presidents in history?
No, this time, I want a real primary. If some Democratic candidates get hurt along the way, fine. As long as the one who prevails then does likewise in the main event.

Imagine being a moderator during the 2004 primaries. It was an interesting experience, but a great one, because even though there was a lot of fighting, it was nice to see so much passion and commitment to the candidates.

This is love-taps compared to the last primary and the next will be ten times worse.

The last thread on page one in this forum had its most recent post more than four hours ago. During the height of primary season and last fall, this forum -- then named General Discussion 2004 -- would fly at a rate of maybe an 8 or 10 minute gap top to bottom of page one. That's not exaggerating at all. I barely had time to respond to someone else's insult before finding someone I wanted to insult.

I wasn't political until after the primaries were over even though I really like Kerry and am a proud Kerrycat. :) In 2008 I'll probably look a lot at the canidates and make the choice myself. I'm sure there a lot of qualified people out there so it'll be interesting to see who comes up for the primaries.

But sometimes it required a break. I would often disappear for a day or two and concentrate on sports. There were frequent threads in the Lounge titled something like, "That's it, I can't take it; I'm never going to GD 2004 again!"
You would easily identify the primary supporters of each candidate and if they didn't agree with you the same basic confrontations repeated. I was an Edwards guy and there seemed to be ongoing tension between Edwards and Clark supporters, for some reason.
