Debunk this: WH says Iraqi soldiers sent their paychecks to NOLA victims! |
|
Yes, Nicole Wallace (formerly 'Devenish'), the WH Communications Director, said on tonight's "Hardball" that a battalion of Iraqi soldiers had sent their paychecks to Katrina victims! She prefaced it by saying something like "I don't know if you've heard this story.."
Apparently the WH was very anxious to America tell this touching tale... which makes one feel all warm and cozy about our occupation of Iraq... they simply ADORE us! Those roadside bombs are just their way of saying "thanks, guys", just little exploding tokens-of-appreciation... like bouquets of forget-me-nots.
Anyway, has anyone out there in DU-land heard this story? Is it the White House PR whopper that it seems to be, or is there any truth to it?

1. "story"? more like "fable" These guys are the poorest of the poor |
|
in Iraq. The idea of them sending ANY money to ANYONE but their own family is just outrageous. How did they do it- PayPal? And where did they get the addresses? Hell, their own Katrina victims' own families cannot even find them.
So, no Nicole, we haven't heard that "story".
Isn't she Tommy Frank's niece or something?

What battalion was this? How did they do it? What did they use for their own needs? Where did they send the money?
Smells like BS.

3. We'd much prefer our OWN La. Nat'l. guard HOME, where they belong. |
|
You know, 'guarding', rebuilding, and stuff.
Please take alleged donation and donate it back to the soldier's families, some of which have gone on food stamps.

There were some donations made by Iraqi soldiers to the Katrina relief efforts. http://www.defenselink.mil/news/Sep2005/20050909_2664.htmlIt amounted to about $680 US currency.
