Desperate DeWine Labels Hackett "insurgent"
No kidding. A friend with Ohio ties just showed me a copy of a fundraising letter he got in the mail from DeWine. It starts out by talking about "The recent decision by both Democrat Congressman Sherrod Brown and insurgent Democrat activist Paul Hackett to get in the Senate race...."

How offensive can you get...labelling Hackett an "insurgent"?
Shameless, just shameless.

13. Sounds like a dangerously serious threat to me.
He's saying that Hackett, a citizen, is a terrorist which means he could be labeled an enemy non-combatant and denied due process.

With our current laws, that is NOT just lobbing desperate insults.

3. Well he is the "insurgent."
That's the role he's taken by going up against the establishment candidate. And I, for one, am glad he's taken that role.

Cool! The revolution is now recognized.

Actually it's a pretty slimey way to disparage someone by using the same word that's used to describe Iraqi freedom fighters.

28. Wish you were right, but remember what they did to Max Cleland
They put Vietnam Vet and hero Cleland and Bin Laden's pic in the same muhf*cking ad and got away with it...And having PC voting over GA didn't hurt Saxby Chambliss either.

6. We'll see even more desperate and crazy GOP campaigning
in the next couple of years. Bush is now a liability, not an asset to incumbent Republicans. What can they run on? Certainly not their pathetic records.

31. words used in political campaigns are chosen very carefully.
I don't think any single word or punctuation mark is not highly scrutinized by the campaign team.

10. This is a major "grudge match"...stand back and watch Hackett kick ass.
Hackett endeared himself to me when he campaigned as a real Democrat.

In the Ohio 2nd district special election, he carried the most rural counties bordering Kentucky by 60% to 40%. He came close in Hamilton County (the burbs outside Cincinnati) but lost in cauldrons of election irregularities, Clermont and Warren Counties.

I believe that he won that election and here's why. I also love this guy.

He called Bush a "son of a bitch" in public (radio too I believe) and referred to people in the White House who sent people to war without ever serving as "chicken hawks."

Ironically, DeWine's son lost to Schmidt in the Republican primary. Otherwise, it would have been a Hackett - DeWine race for the 2nd.

This guy has it. We better figure out what happened in the special election out there (measures polling 'yes' with a 20% margin lost by 30%...sure, that happens).

Hackett :yourock:

11. Normally the label insurgent would apply when the incumbent
is being challenged from someone from his/her own party for the nomination.

The use of "insurgent" by a chickenhawk GOP incumbent is more sinister. It is a ridiculous attempt to link Hackett to the Iraqi insurgency. This is no accident by the idiot DeWine. Bush has already accused Democrats of betraying and demoralizing the troops and giving comfort to America's enemies because Democratic leaders are asking about the way the Bush dictatorship lied about WMDs.

We can expect to see more of these smears in the future by other GOP incumbents fearful of losing control of Congress.

21. LTTE time.....
to Ohio newspapers... quoting directly from the DeWine fundraising letter - and asking if this is the language that should be used for one willing to risk his life in Iraq, serving at the president's behest - against insurgent attacks? Shameful and should be put into the papers.

22. DeWine is finished, he has no credibility and even less class.
Nationalofficial study of Ohio’s problems was conducted by John Conyers and House Judiciary Committee members shortly after the election. Conyers details his findings in What Went Wrong in Ohio: the Conyers Report on the 2004 Presidential Election. Tactics to ensure a Bush win in Ohio included race-based voter suppression targeting black citizens, mis allocation of voting equipment, and strange happenings. One of the strangest irregularities was the lockout of observers and media by Warren County’s Board of Elections during vote counting due to a “national security alert” provided directly to their location. The FBI flatly denied that any such alert to Warren was issued.

26. And they're bitching about Sherrod Brown "plagiarizing" something
from an obviously sympathetic web site . . .

This proves that DeWine is scum.

And then they'll blame it on the spellchecker - "What I really meant to say is 'a surging' Democrat . . ."

Also, they tried the "smear" ACTIVIST . . .

29. Then Senator DeWine is Saddam Hussein
Grass-roots campaigns that run against the establishment are often called "insurgent". However, it's a poor choice of words for a patriotic veteran who fought for DeWine's freedom in Iraq. What is DeWine's military service? non-existent? Then he can go Cheney himself.

You know what this means right? Paul Hackett can win!
