1. What will be in the bill the GOP will present?
Does anybody knows if the Repubs did not insert some traps? Seems the Dems had not seen it until recently.

16. I'd vote for it.
On the other hand this is not the proposal that Murtha made and the Democrats should walk out and not vote.

22. Mc Govern first - and he is the one who proposed a bill for immediate
withdrawal first.

This is a political stunt.

13. Damn them all if they vote no.
Murtha has put his ass on the line like the old soldier that he is. At least for once our joke of a party can take some risk and join ranks.

However, it is a start, and it has gotten the idea out of the memory hole and out in front of every american. Missing white woman in aruba, and crusty old ex marine democrat says get the fuck out. How's that for the cognitive dissonance?

26. It is not Murtha's proposal.
It calls for terminating the invasion and occupation of Iraq immediately.

Don't get me wrong: I would vote for it. However it is impractical and would put our troops in danger. Murtha called for a six month timeframe for complete withdrawal - quite a different proposal.

I would vote for it as I find it the only ethical thing to do, even if it caused additional danger to our soldiers.

14. best thing for the Democrats to do is ignore the vote completely
Let the Republicans vote alone and recommit to the war. Then they will truly be the owners of it, and pay dearly for it next November.

I dearly wish that this resolution would pass - but it won't. The best thing to do is use it in a politically smart way.

28. We are not the one doing the gamesmanship
Edited on Fri Nov-18-05 04:53 PM by Mass
the GOP is the one who is proposing his proposition (Duncan Hunter) and forced a rushed vote, without any possibility of amendment.

Murtha had proposed his bill for discussion on an Iraq withdrawal, and actually had not offered it in the House yet. The GOP has written a bill to force the vote, against Murtha's wishes.

Plus, while I try to have C-span on in the background at work (I do now) I can't always follow everything.

31. This is complicated stuff huh?
So I am against the war, I wake up every morning horrified by what we have done and are continuing to do in Iraq. I want us out of there tomorrow and I want The Cabal on trial for crimes against humanity and I want us to pay reparations to the Iraqi people for what we have done. I personally and without hesitation would vote yes on this resolution. I would do so knowing that implementation of the resolution would very likely result in the death of many of our soldiers in the chaos of an immediate departure. I am so horrified by the crimes we are committing that I wouold accept that price if it meant that tomorrow we would stop continuing to commit these crimes.

However, this is quite simply a ploy by the assholes to try and paint the growing opposition to the war as irresponsible surrender to terrorists cut'n'run leftwing loons. They are tring desperately to negate the considerable damage done by Murtha's actual proposal, which does not resemble this proposal at all. The Democratic Party has to understand what is being attempted here. They do, it seems, and they will not vote yes or no on this bullshit rovian ploy.

34. ZERO. There will be no vote on Murtha.

House Republicans will never let the Murtha bill come up for a vote or even for debate. So there will be ZERO votes for Murtha.

On the other hand, the Hunter bill on which they ARE voting, will likely get a few votes. But not many.
