Murtha might have been considered " Republican Lite" by
myself and others on this Board prior to this week. But now he is our hero. I think this demonstates conclusively that there is more that unites Democrats than divides us.
We need to build on the fighting spirit demonstrated by our reps in Congress last night. And we need to focus on the critical tasks of driving these RW crooks and incompetents from power by taking back one or both Houses of Congress in '06 and regaining the Presidency in '08.
To be successful in our mission to deliver this country from the " might makes right" crowd that has hijacked our government and brought shame to our values, we have to have a strong but broad coalition. That means that we have to emulate one aspect of the Repugs. We have to abandon our internecine wars and concentrate our fire on those who are hell bent on bringing our nation to ruin.
We see from Jack Murtha's courageous and thoughtful stand that moderate and conservative Democrats are not to be shunned and attacked. We should know that moderate and conservative voters are not to be belittled or mocked but rather courted and persuaded.
Our ideas have power. But to be effective, we need to not get hung up in doctrinal jihads but rather rally around those beliefs that bind us. To do less is not worthy of the progeny of FDR, JFK and MLK.

1. The same could be said of Harry Reid, before the closed session
that he forced while Cat Killer Frist could do nothing but hold his breath until he turned purple.

The centrist Dems clearly have center stage at the moment, although Kucinich certainly struck a blow for the progressives during yesterday's Pier 6 brawl, um, Im ean "debate".

2. Its True
The big tent gave us majorities for a generation. We are just now starting to keep the tent open with Bob Casey Jr. and Paul Hackett. Look how the Republicans try to primary out their "moderates", like Lincoln Chafee and Arlen Specter. They have a hand in their own destruction.
