Women pour cash into Michigan (2006 election push)
Emily's List, the powerful and controversial feminist money machine, expects to pump millions of dollars into Michigan in a record-breaking effort to re-elect two of its biggest political stars -- Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Sen. Debbie Stabenow.

"You are going to see every aspect of Emily's List in Michigan -- donations, campaign training, voter education," promises the group's political director, Karen White. "Emily's List will do whatever it takes to see that Debbie Stabenow and Jennifer Granholm are re-elected."

In 2000, Emily's List sent $1.4 million to Stabenow -- nearly one-fifth of her total -- and more than $600,000 to Granholm two years later. This time, the group's members are expected to open their purses even more generously, setting off an escalating spending war with Republicans who believe both first-termers can be knocked off.

"It's a powerful group, but it doesn't frighten me," Saul Anuzis, chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, said of Emily's List, the nation's largest political action committee.

1. Replace the "u" with "a" in Anuzis and what do you get?
Fuck off, Repugs. We know what your national party has done for our state for the last five years, and we don't want any more of it.

2. Michigan will need all the federal safety nets when GM tanks!
And the GOP is busy slashing away at those nets. Not a strong platform for campaigning in Michigan.

At the rate the GOP fatcats managing GM are running through it's cash reserves, the corporation won't last until the November, 2006 elections, and the loss of jobs in Michigan will be horrendous. In addition to direct employees of GM, there are all the employees of the subsidiaries and suppliers. Then there's the loss of trade to all the local businesses, and probably severe cuts to pension & health care plans for all the retired GM employees.

The majority of Michigan voters will have a family member or friend or neighbor who's in severe financial distress. Doesn't sound like GOP friendly terriroty to me. I wouldn't be surprised if the GOP doesn't revise its posturing that they have a chance to defeat either Stabenow or Granholm, and put their $$$ to work trying to protect some of their own incumbents.
