61. Yeah, I thought "Kerry" was the least impressive tonight

Clark *ruled* tonight. Clean and consise, and got some excellent sound bytes in, and spoke on a number of subjects. If we had a decent media, he'd be doing great.

Unfortunately, Clark received ZERO attention, that I've seen, post-debate. Buchanan, speaking with Tweety, puffed up Kerry saying that he "won."

Sharpton was great, too, commenting on Florida 2000.

Best line of the night may have been Edwards...: "The President needs to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time."

I even thought Brokaw did OK, except he can't be forgiven for his prejudicing the audience at the outset:

- Commented on Kerry's lead and mentioned Dean's campaign struggles.
- Said Edwards *had* to win SC
- Grouped (Clark, Sharpton, Kucinich) together and asked in they shouldn't drop out if they don't win somewhere next Tuesday.
- Asked Lieberman effectively the same "when you gonna quit?" nonsense.

Brokaw was out-of-bounds in doing this. Let the people listen to the debate and decide for themselves; dont' handicap the candidates before the debate. This is especially important for those people who haven't been following the race.

Very sad.

86. Right on..
The camera cut to a view of Lieberman and Clark (listening to another speaker) at one point, and the difference was stark. There was Lieberman, with his arms crossed looking angry and Clark looking receptive and happy.

Three lengthy threads on this topic (Clark's great performance) should be some indication..

Clark finally showed some of the command presence that I have been hoping for out of him since he joined the campaign.

I am a Dean supporter. I think Dean did OK. But I think Clark really came to the forefront this evening. I was quite impressed with his performance.

Sincere congratulations to Clark supporters on a very good night.

Thanks, but not so much for the complement on our candidate, but for being a breath of fresh air. The boards seem to be more tense lately, what with the media trying to end the whole process before it's had a chance to get started.

edit: p.s. thanks for the complement, too, though.

Totally agree. They need to figure out how to present Clark to people in this fashion... More Town Hall style, less stump-speeches.

And couldn't they find a way to have his Town Halls broadcast live over the Internet, nightly? Or, worst case, record them and put them up on the website?

I always expected Clark to be a pretty tough candidate to beat in the primary...and damn near impossible in the General (thank Goddess). If I can't have Dean, please oh please let it be Clark. Besides, who else but Clark can pick up Dean's grassroots movement if Dean doesn't win? Kerry? Lieberman? nooooooo.

Word has it that Clark has a "gender gap" in that women view him less positively than men do. (My apologies for mentioning a poll.) Supposedly it has something to do with his military background.

Clark cares about things that are important to all people and to women too. Health insurance, education, employment, quality of living, reproductive rights, domestic violence.

I fully believe that 98% of all women, just like men, form their opinions on issues and oher factors not looks.

But he is fine. That's just icing on the cake.

68. that's why we like him
politics is nasty...but some people can rise above it

notice how Wes was smiling so much...he likes what he's doing...

doesn't seem like he's trying to be someone he isn't...or that he "needs" to be president

very refreshing...

The General looked double-s SHARP tonight. That blue tie has got to stay!

Besides the image, which is important, Clark stayed on message, came across as positive and confident and hopefully started the path of differentiating himself from the Washington insider, Kerry.

Thanks to all the great Clark supporters on the board. Everytime I get a little down about the media ignoring Clark or the perceived inevitably of the Kerry nomination, I just have to pop in here and get a big ole dose of optimism.

Question: Any Clark supporters doing volunteer work in Kansas City metro area? I emailed to volunteer this weekend but have heard nada. Any suggestions?

ps I'm confused on adding an avatar...thought I picked the Clark one in my profile but when I posted wasn't there. Any clue?

84. Avatar
Is set in your profile - click on the Lobby link (up to the left) and there, click on "Options" icon (top, near center) then, on the left, select "Edit your Profile" link. Then, in the 3rd field "Avatar image" click on the link that says "following images" - click on the image you like, then click on the "Update" button (scroll down) and you're done.

Whew.

Send me an e-mail: nv1962@forclark.com and I'll forward it to LR, see who (which local co-ordinator) is closest to you.

LOOK at this guy! Can you say Presidential? Now think of Bush. Now think of Clark v. Bush in a debate.

75. Great performance but tv and newspapers are pretending he doesn't exist.
There should be a law against allowing the 4th estate to pervert democracy by refusing to cover the person who is second to Kerry in the polling for Feb 3 states.

83. Was it just me...?
Or did Brokaw seem like he didn't really want to ask the general a question and then, once he was asked, he couldn't wait to shut him down? It almost seemed like, we're just letting you respond out of courtesy, but we'd really like to just skip your responses....? Anybody else have a similar feeling?

89. Did you see the Brokaw interview with Clark after the State of the Union?
They kind of got into it over Clark's supposed support of the war. Brokaw was trying to use the out of context quote in that London (?) paper (you know which one I'm talking about) and Clark was all over him and actually interrupted Brokaw and was saying "Now be careful. Be careful" in response to the lying liar and the lies he was telling. Clark actually used the finger wag on him!

Then Brokaw just kind of sat back in his chair all flabbergasted with this screwy-ass look on his face like he had just stepped in dog poo. So I don't think there is any love lost between them. So maybe that's part of Brokaw's behavior tonight.

5? minutes to DK before Clard ever got to open his mouth.

Not biased. Not at all.

I haven't been happy with all of the candidates all of the time, I do appreciate the group we have to chose from, especially when you look in the WH.

95. great response tonight
I thought Clark did really well for himself tonight (looked great too). I really liked how Clark stood up for himself when Brokaw tried to misrepresent him more than once. He was VERY strong on his Iraq war response, and as a Dean supporter, I'm so appreciative to hear another candidate speak in such a strong voice about it.

I hope Clark continues to shine on strong, and I hope he cleans up in the south - we need him there. :)

101. We took on AP....
who had an article on Yahoo with 2 lines on Clark buried after mentions of everyone else.....we called, faxed and telephoned.....two hours later, they had a story about only Clark....a positive one for a f*cking change...and another debate story starting with his quote.

Those are some assh*les who think they rule the world....well they got busted tonight! They have an agenda!

Well they can kiss my grits....cause I've got one too!

103. Did Brokejaw Really Do This???
Edited on Fri Jan-30-04 04:14 AM by Jack_Dawson
I missed the debate. But Brokejaw just leapfrogged Woodruff, Jennings, Crowley, Novak, Tweety, Safire and Carlson for World's Top MediaWhore if he really did this:

(Lifted from krkaufman's post earlier in this thread)

Thanks krkaufman!

"I even thought Brokaw did OK, except he can't be forgiven for his prejudicing the audience at the outset:

- Commented on Kerry's lead and mentioned Dean's campaign struggles.
- Said Edwards *had* to win SC
- Grouped (Clark, Sharpton, Kucinich) together and asked in they shouldn't drop out if they don't win somewhere next Tuesday.
- Asked Lieberman effectively the same "when you gonna quit?" nonsense.

Brokaw was out-of-bounds in doing this. Let the people listen to the debate and decide for themselves; dont' handicap the candidates before the debate. This is especially important for those people who haven't been following the race.

Very sad."
