Lieberman scolds fellow Democrats for not standing up at SOTUS!
Anybody watch or hear tonight's debate? Did anybody hear or see what Joe Lieberman said? He said he was "tired of the partisan politics in Washington and then he chasitses other Democrats for not showing Bush any respect standing up or applauding during the state of the Union speech? I almost gagged.

3. The next Zell Miller?
Hopefully, after next Tuesday, the good Senator can return to shilling for his insurance companies, and enjoy his frequent visits with Sean Hannity.

4. That's not quite what he said
He was taking a stand against polarizing presidents -- on the left OR right. Far from chastising his own colleagues in the Senate, he was making the case that if he were president, he'd be able to attract support from both sides of the aisle. Now you may not agree with that, but that's no reason to twist his statements.

6. I am happy the Democrats just sat there.
Edited on Thu Jan-29-04 09:04 PM by Cascadian
Bush did not deserve the Democrats respect. They got my repsect that night until Daschle and Pelosi's docile response. Then I thought "Oh well. Busniess as usual!" :eyes:

7. Lieberman is a wimp and I would not trust him with our national security.
Edited on Thu Jan-29-04 09:07 PM by w4rma
He will not fight far right-wing policy. I think that this would be what he would do in other situations also. He is a wimp.

13. Shouldn't Respect Bush
I would take it then that the Democrats a couple of weeks ago did the right thing by not standing for Bush at the State of the Union ... In fact, they rose too much if they stood at all.

Never should a "leader" -- who lies to the nation to start a war that gets over 500 GIs and thousands of innocent Iraqis killed -- be given any sign of respect whatsoever.

15. Why would he want to reach out to a bunch of neocons???
These people have succeeded in polarizing the country. Reaching out the Republicans is like a rabbit trying to reach out to a wolf right before he is about eat him. Honestly, Lieberman does more to weaken the Democrats than any other person in politics. Him and Zell Miller.

21. Lieberman reaches out to Neocons
because he is one himself.
He agreed with the war; Joe is very hawkish on sending other people's kids to fight wars.

Dean always gets trashed because he went skiing, but what about Joe?
Where was he during Vietnam?

This war was a travesty, we were lied to, 500+ dead, 2500+ wounded,
yet he still thinks it was a great idea, because he wants to make the Middle East over for Israel. And that is exactly the goal of PNAC.

Hey Joe, there are more important things to talk about.

Hey Joe, what did you say when wingers treated Clinton like a piece of dirt?

18. Lieberman joined in attacking Clinton.
Just utterly pathetic. And people wonder why there are those who hate Lieberman.

22. Really? I think it's more of a dig at bush for dividing the nation
Edited on Fri Jan-30-04 03:14 AM by 0rganism
At first, I thought he was lashing out at the Democrats, and then I was like... "oh, yeah, I think I see what he means, but it's a helluva way to get there."

I don't think Joe scored any "base points" with that bit.
