Every dollar we give to Edwards counts double. Kerry/Dean's |
|
count once.
When you see that Edwards has raised a million, he's really raised 2 million since he's still getting matching funds (if the donations are under 250).
When you see that Dean has raised 1 million on the bat, that's all he raised, thanks to the fact that he opted out of public funds. Does that seem silly to have done that now? If he accepted the limits, he'd have his millions AND he'd be getting a dollar for every dollar raised. (Anyone regret their vote when Dean threw this one out to the supporters?)
Kerry also opted out of public financing.
So this has turned out to be nice leveller for the guy who hasn't been a three-term senator sitting on super-powerful committees, and who hasn't been saddled with a short-sighted campaign manager.

I like Edwards, but if he is going to fight this fight, he needs to be under the cap of 45 million. Kerry (and Dean - haha) can spend as much as they "have" or "need to."

5. Isn't it a state-by-state limit? Season so compressed, |
|
they'll all be hard pressed to spend effectively beyond the limits.
And no Dems going to outraise Bush in GE anyway. And if they spend outside the limit they only get fined. I'd rather take the high ground on spending limits, get the matching fun, and, if absolutely neccessary, take the fine.
Furthermore, Bush had to double Gore on spending just to get close enough to throw it to the SC. He's going to have to quadruple Edward's spending just to avoid a landslide.

11. Feb 3 performance will be commercial for VA and TN. |
|
And they'll load up TV with those commercials if they meet their targets on Feb 3.

3. Not really....it is not a 50/50.... |

They will match funds up to a $250 total donation; after that it's just money. I think there is a $45 million cap too.
I don't regret one cent donated to Dean. In fact I just gave another $50 yesterday. It was the logical thing to do, opt out of matching funds. I'm glad he did.

6. Dean's avg on most recent bat: less than 60 bucks, so... |
|
...few donations probably went over 250. Dean might have missed out on lots of federal money. And the irony of the fact that, had he acceted caps, he might still have a couple million more.

Dean surpassed it already. Plus, *bush will have the equilivence of Fort Knox ....It's planning for the future....I still support the rationale.
