GOP attacks WI Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton over ties to Wesley Clark
The state Republican Party has filed an open-records request for the schedules of Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton and her staff, citing questions over the time she’s spent campaigning for retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark.

Requested are copies of work, travel and vacation schedules for Lawton and workers in her office since Clark declared his candidacy on Sept. 17 for the Democratic presidential nomination.

The party said it wants to see whether Lawton, a Democrat who chairs Clark’s campaign in Wisconsin, inappropriately used any state resources while campaigning.

.....

And the state Democratic Party has fired back with its own records request, this one for the schedule of U.S. Rep. Mark Green, R-Green Bay, over the past year.

“I’ve seen over the past couple months he’s attended a lot of Republican fund-raisers outside of his district,” party spokesman Seth Boffeli said.

Green also serves as co-chair of President Bush’s ’04 campaign in Wisconsin.

3. The Democrats in Congress and the Senate should do the same!
They should demand investigations into how much money and time Bush and Cheney spend on campaigns and fundraising compared to how much they spend on doing anything usefull for the American people.

Democrats need to get tough.

It is almost always Republicans on the offensive and Democrats on the defensive.

When will our side be the ones attacking? It is way past time!

5. No offense,
but after Clinton's marathon fundraising, it would be rather hypocritical to launch an investigation into Bush's.

6. Save the Clinton bashing. It would by hypocritical not to investigate!
The Republicans spent eight years attacking and investigating Clinton. To not investigate Bush and offer a Republican president the same type of treatment he and his thugs offered Clinton would be hypocritical of the right. The Republicans always had a problem with fundraising, and they still pretend to, unless it's Bush or Cheney doing it.

Bush should be investigated for everything they went after Clinton for, and more.

7. I haven't read the article yet (running late)
but need to respond to this.

Barbara Lawton has been using all of her vacation time to campaign for Wes Clark. The campaign has been paying her expenses (travel, etc.).

When she first considered supporting him, she immediately called the State Ethics Board to ask if there would be any problems and to make sure she followed all proper procedure.

The repugs recognize that she is a great asset to the Clark campaign, and she is a great asset to our state - so of course, they'll try to take her down.

Sickening. :puke:

8. In the past 2 years WI a handfull of pols (Ds & Rs) have been
charged with misuse of their office and office staff for campaigning so this sort of scrutiny isnt really very unexpected up here. If you have nexus you can search it for the entire messy story.

This is more of "getting even" than it is something developed specifically to attack Clark's campaign (which from a Dean supporter's view seems to be securely on track in Wisconsin).
