Super Tuesday: Will Dean be the only anti-Kerry candidate?
Edited on Fri Jan-30-04 10:35 AM by nu_duer
Should Dean supporters vote Kerry in Feb?.....

If Clark and Edwards are blown away by Kerry Tuesday, which is not certain to happen at all, I know, but if it does, that would leave Dean as the only realistic anti-Kerry candidate by March. A thinned field would definitely benefit Dean. If this is the new strategy, its starting to make sense to me.

If it comes down to Kerry v. Dean by Super Tuesday, we'll be looking at Kerry having to get 50% plus of the vote to continue his streak. I don't think he can pull off that kind of support in CA or NY, etc.

Should we Dean supporters in Feb. primary states vote Kerry to try to bring this scenario about? (Or do I need another shot of caffeine this morning?)

1. It won't be Kerry / Dean. HD and JL will be gone in four days.
It will be Clark, Kerry and Edwards.

17. Dean will be gone before Clark?
I seriously doubt that.

In fact, I'm betting after Tuesday, Clark may begin to regret not teaming up with Dean earlier on. That might have been the juggernaut that would have boosted any "outsider" chances this year.

At any rate, we'll see.

25. Edwards has money issues.
And Clark is out soon if he doesn't get any primaries.

Dean is in it for the long haul whether people like it or not. He's only quitting if it's mathematically impossible to win.

2. It doesn't sound like caffeine is
what you've been having shots of!

What sort of support will your candidate have going into Feb 10 and 17 if he is a 'total loser' on Tuesday, as opposed to making a respectable showing? I don't think you're placing much faith in your candidate!

3. There isno such thing as anti-kerry candidate
Kerry's the candidate for the sheep of America. And I'm not talking about DUers, so don't even try to alert this.

Kerry is safe. He doesn't rock the boat. He wants Bush out of office, but once that goal is met, I don't see him doing anything else. Same ole same ole. The DLC holds on to its power. We emerge four years from now only slightly better off than we are now.

I had no idea your mind was still open to Dean while you were spouting off about getting us to NOT vote for him.

21. I was joking. And I've already made my mind up about Dean
-- as a candidate in the primaries, I do not support him. I'll support him if he's the Democratic nominee. My sig line indicates who I support.

Anybody who claims to be objective on this forum is about as believable as a Dick Cheney lecture on energy conservation.

11. This is known as over-analyzing
It would be silly to vote for someone other than your candidate, plus it's not gonna happen anyway. Dean supporters will vote for Dean in the primaries, this can safely be said with certainty.

Edited on Fri Jan-30-04 10:45 AM by PATRICK
between shooting yourself in the foot or the head as far as Dean's future is concerned. Dean's political assets seem to have collapsed with his failure to prove himself on his chosen ground. it seems way too late to reverse that especially with his support base itself undermined with the departure of Trippi. In fact his woes are legion.

Kerry on the other hand was simply his own worst enemy, but kept on strong and put it back on base in what was really a decisive opening round- which it should never have been, but then Dean would be still facing a weak Southern hand this Tuesday. Oddly I once thought a Dean/Kerry shootout would have propelled the other candidates but it turned into a wildly unequal blowout first one way then the other so that one of them would become very dominant. Had it been Dean, the others would have had an easier time staying alive at least, by some degree.

I would say vote your second choice after Dean for who you think would be the best candidate- if you think Dean can't win- because you may not get a second opportunity. Just one drop in the ocean though.

We should remove some of Dean's only remaining support so that it looks like the whole country is behind Kerry? C'mon.

Excuse me while I remove my foot from my mouth.

I think quinnox was right. overanalyzing. drowsy overanalyzing.

To anyone who took offense, especially fellow Dean supporters, my humble apologies.

Boy, is my face red.

Thanks, you Clark supporters are a class act.
