What difference does the nominee make if our vote doesn't count.
So far the only candidate who is fighting for our right to vote is Dennis Kucinich, who has backed Rush Holt's bill (HR2239) calling for a paper trail. Bob Graham has a Senate equivalent of the same bill. Whoever your candidate is, get him on board or, regardless of how he does in the primaries, Bush wins. The concerns about black box voting aren't just conspiracy theories. The concerns are backed up by facts and evidence. And unless, we get a paper trail by November, we might as well stay home. Bush proved in 2000 that he would do anything to steal this election.

So what is your candidate doing to fight for a paper trail?

1. EVERY DAY
we must all congeale into a collective roar regarding this issue!

EVERY DAY, address this issue in your candidate's blog!

get into a speech where the candidate is and make sure the issue gets attention there.

write everyone.

contact the media every day.

if you don't want to be in the street rioting in late November, we have to scream this issue from the hilltops every day until it gets adequate attention and fixing.

2. sad, but true
you're right. Even some of the states that are fighting for a paper trail say that the won't be able to get this done till 2006, too late.

3. no
no, we can't let them get away with that.

we CAN resolve this issue this year. we MUST.

this has to become a major issue. it needs media attention.

all our candidates ought to address it. it should be part of their speeches.

4. Yes, it *should* be.
Why then do you think it's not?

5. maybe
because we haven't forced the issue enough.

live near a media place, like CNN? go there with a sign!

a reporter live in your town? set up tent across the yard!

something, something something must be done!

6. Sounds pretty weak to me
We have been forcing the issue with the candidates. They seem to have somehow missed the importance of the subject. (except Dennis and maybe Howard)

Do you really think they're waiting for the media to take the torch from us, and then the candidates will all finally get their act together? I doubt it.

8. The Dems abandonned common sense
and all instinct for survival somewhere along the line. The stony silence among the Democratic leadership from 2000 on has made penetrating less friendly walls impossible. All advances have been deflected, minimized played off against HAVA. Attempts underway to improve HAVA I am sure are models of quiet legislation that will never see the light of day agian if the Repugs block this as they have all other Dem efforts.

We have no loud and unified political leadership- THOSE MOST AT RISK- on the simplest matters of logic and disinformation. The captains do not listen to us explaining how the ship is sinking and as crazy as that sounds it is not an uncommon phenomenon.

The grass roots knowledge is successful to the point of discouraging those who cannot effect change and encouraging the thieving minority to more brazen efforts. Eventually we could win, but eventually is too late once internet voting is added to the witches' brew. All intention is focussed on us "critics" and glitches and teeneybopper hackers, not the systemic destruction of democracy for the "advances" of comfortable high tech glamor machines.

Candidates heavily invested in primaries are most at risk(Janet Reno affair) and supposedly walking into the noose, deaf, dumb and blind. We are just lucky they can't rig it for Lieberman.

7. Georgia is making headway on this issue
See the post about the Town Hall meeting last night in Georgia with Cynthia McKinney at CountTheVote.org.

There's a follow up action item there for Georgians as well.

9. I agree, but...
to say that "we might as well stay home" is a very disheartening statement. I take your point, however, I don't think staying home is the answer to anything. I know, because I tried it for a long time.

11. Absentee voting is one way of creating a paper trail but only if everyone
does it.

10. I can't find a link nut John Kerry did say that if nominated

He would challenge the ballot system and press for a paper trail. He has said this several times including at least once in a debate.

12. Will he help push through Graham's bill in the Senate?
Since it is identical to Holt's bill, they wouldn't need a conference committee.

15. We should NOT be having ANY election until electronic voting is eliminated
Our states governments are essentially being looted by engaging in buying the electronic voting machines.

All we need is a box to put our written paper ballots in!!
Thats all we need.

Electronic voting can and will end Democracy as we know it, in fact it is doing it right now and it did it in 2002.

More importantly, it smothers the truth and validates dishonest outcomes and there is no way to conduct a legitimate audit.

It strengthens the bullies and further oppresses the victims of a system that is corrupt.

It does amaze me how so many talk about the election (myself included at times*), as if its going to be legitimate.

Hellew?????? Anyone home in America?
