Tennessee starts meth offender registry
Tennessee has launched an online methamphetamine offender registry, the latest among the state's efforts to combat the drug made from common household items.

The Web site - www.tennessee anytime.org/methor - will list anyone convicted of methamphetamine making, dating back to March 30.

"The intent is to let people in communities know," Jennifer Johnson, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, said Friday. "We've found that chemicals used to make meth are very volatile, and people have been dumping dangerous waste near their property."

......

"It's hard to say what kind of impact the embarrassment will have," she said. "Some people are so addicted to meth that they'll go back to it no matter what happens. A lot of people have lost their children and have still gone back to meth.

"If you're willing to lose your children over meth, I'm not sure that a Web site will change anything," she said.

Instead of dealing with the root causes of dug addiction, the choads start another Megan's Law list.

Be on the look out for www.tennesseeauthority.org/trafficticket.html in the near future.

4. these so-called registries constitute cruel and unusual punishment, and
as such are unconstitutional, IMO.

And you just watch... it won't be long before there's a 'registry' for everything. :grr:

5. How will this help?
The little area of TN I moved from last year was overrun with meth labs, most everyone knew who the culprits were without use of the Internet, including and especially local police.
