Washington State doesn't care

Wash. Drops Pesticide Notification Rule

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051231/ap_on_bi_ge/pesticide_rule;_ylt=Akxod56rxfTANL.gVoXMPpis0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA3bGI2aDNqBHNlYwM3NDk-

Schools, hospitals and day-care centers don't need two days of written notice before their farmer neighbors spray dangerous pesticides, the state agriculture director has decided.

The decision is a victory for growers — particularly orchardists — who argued the proposal was burdensome and unnecessary.

Environmental and farm worker advocates criticized the ruling, saying the state's enforcement of current pesticide regulations is weak.

"If the
Department of Agriculture can't even take this baby step forward, what can they do to protect health?" said Carol Dansereau, director of the nonprofit Farm Worker Pesticide Project.

1. The only problem with generalities....is that...
this one seems to include everyone within the borders of the state itself...

I live in rural Wash. state...and for the life of me, cannot think of one instance in my area, where a hospital, school, or day care resides within an area also containing a farmer's orchard that would need sprayed...I think I would be more concerned about the state spraying for tansy....I don't believe they give anyone prior notice, as to when they are going to spray....

Perhaps this is a situation that just affects one part of the state...like E. of the Cascades where most of the fruit is grown...you know, Wenatchee, Yakima...etc...so maybe the thing for those areas to do, if this is such a big health problem, would be to take it up with their local town councils...or health dept.'s..and get laws passed in the immediate local areas that ARE affected by such things...

What good does a two day notice do in the first place? They going to close the hospital, school or day-care until all perceived(or proven) threat from the spray has passed? The next thing to think about is this...any law is only as good as the enforcement of it...and since they aren't enforcing it to begin with...then what's the big deal if they drop it??? Mayhaps I am missing the point???
