1. Yep, I saw that, too. Creepy.
Fortunately, it is on the PS2 and so won't be carried on XBox Live. If it was, they'd've been able to track who was using it. Doubly creepy.

2. I think my son has played that in the recent past
he switches games so quickly I can't keep track. I know their ploy won't work with him so I'm not worried. He went with me to DC for a war protest and wants to go again. He also verbally spars with the pro-war idiots in his high school.

3. Video Games and Hollywood the new recruitment drive
History, really does become forgotten, over time.

It would seem that after Vietnam, the Pentagon Papers, and Watergate, HOllywood; not quite yet owned by a corporate conglomerate labyrnith, put out decent movies.

Apocolypse Now,CAtch 22(The Book -turned into movie,Coming Home, etc all showed a healthy skepticism for war.

The Pentagon gives the green light to movies by approving scripts.
If you make Top Gun you get to use the fancy toys to beef up your movie( but f!@#-All for a good script)-Seems after Top GUN alot of pro-war movies were made with stick figures for bad guys instead of real 3-dimensional 'enemies'

- As for 'VIDEO GAMES'-THE simulation---very real, and desensitizes you

7. Didn't Reagan make some sort of comment about...
...video games (being novel when he was President) were "good training" for kids?

13. A few good war movies have come out in Recent times..
Saving Private Ryan and The Thin Red Line all show war very realistically and not in the John Wayne "tough guy" style of movies like "The Green Berets" which was made in the old days but still a total Pentagon lovefest. (Hey just thought of something funny - it had George Takei in it of Star Trek "Sulu" fame - who just came out of the closet about a month ago..don't ask don't tell... :)

5. Not really new
It's been out for over a year. We played it a little bit at work, but it wasn't really fun.

10. I've never played this game; how does is it different from other games?
Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 10:46 PM by Massacure
How does Americas Army differ from games such as FEAR, Ghosts, Half Life, Counter Strike, Doom, and the like?

12. It's probably 1/2 first person shooter 1/2 recruiting poster...
and to make a bad joke, another 1/2 get your name and addy so we can send a recruiter to ask you how much you liked the game and get you to sign up for "the real deal"....

Did anybody ever see the movie "The Last StarFighter" which came out in 1984?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087597/

Kind of the same idea...

15. Not all that surprising
Edited on Mon Jan-02-06 07:16 AM by man_2
The game IS pretty bad-ass, but it isn't gong to get people to join the army. It is like drawing parallels between playing GTA and people being criminals. Just because you play doesn't mean It will brain wash you, no matter what Jack Thompson tells you.

16. It won't get people into the army for the most part
It does have an effect on the public psyche and will prepare those who want to join the army. They will have friends who will be introduced. It could get a few thousand recruits

17. Rather creepy
Just a nit its not new, its been around for at least 3 or 4 years.

I remember downloading it when it first came out.

I don't remember if the Iraq war had already started or not, but I was nonetheless offended by
such a recruiting technique.
