If can't get all the groups to work....no go.

Long-repressed Shia majority want their day in the sun...Sunnis still fighting for power.

4. ON TO IRAN>>>>>>
Talk about attack on Iran going through the ME like wildfire right now...

On the one had, that's positive because the Iranians have to understand they need to come and try resolve the issue peacefully through diplomatic

On the other had, the strengthening of the anger of the Shia militias inside Iraq. So there's a complicating factor, it's not just about politics, it's about how the Admin. handles the region...(pursed lips)

Need adroit handling....

Fox: Attack a good option if we know they have nukes?

Clark: I think we know where some of the sites are, probably not all of them. Have to keep military option on the table. I'm not revealing any classified information here...
Might strike continuously for 6-8 days, a pause, might go back in, might be prepared to put in Special Forces to occupy and seize evidence from some of these sites so there's no doubt in the mind of the world why we went in there, wouldn't be a single strike if we have to do it...

BUT--before we ever reach that stage--I HOPE THAT WE'LL BE ABLE TO SAY THAT WE'VE EXHAUSTED ALL OTHER ALTERNATIVES....the US still hasn't talked to Iran...We don't like the Iranian President, but on the other hand, before we bomb him, we could at least try to have a dialogue....we've gone through the Europeans, why can't we talk to him??

5. OK-so the question to our Democratic leaders--why the hell
don't you pre-empt Bushco on this??? Criticize and attack them on their lack of diplomacy in this??

Or are we going to see the Iraq bull repeated??? If Democrats sit idley by, they will not be enhancing their stature as a party...we will LOSE again

10. Talk to Iran BEFORE We Bomb Iran- That should be our mantra
Edited on Mon Jan-02-06 01:53 PM by Tom Rinaldo
Strategically I think there is a chance that a unified message like that has a small chance of making a difference in the short amount of time we have to avoid this crisis with the limited tools at our disposal. It doesn't matter if many of us believe we should not bomb Iran under virtually any circumstances.

It is too easy for the Bush Administration, with all of the propaganda tools at their disposal, to set off a fog machine over whether or not Iran has to be stopped now. For every argument against it they will push three in favor of it. But the simple truth of...

"Talk to Iran BEFORE We Bomb Iran"

...cuts through the fog and unites people who might otherwise take different positions around basic common sense. That is the only approach I can see that may make a difference now. That is why Clark made that point so forcefully. People may worry about Iran bombing Israel or Israel bombing Iran if we don't act first, but they get it that we should talk to a potential adversary before we kill a potential adversary, and invite a cycle of revenge against us in return.

BombBomb-Iran... Bomb-Iran...

8. Probably not all of them...
Fucking great...just great. It was a thought I had last night. We could be going into Iran, bombing them, and we won't even know what we got. Great. Ohhhhhhh, and bush does what? Of course, he declares victory.

Meanwhile on the campaign trail, the Democrats, who will have approved and lauded these stark measures, are cited as wussies by the war-mongering republicans. Well, unless something goes wrong (which it will) and then the Democrats will be held up by the war-mongering republicans as "they wanted it too."

I've heard that this was the General's best interview yet. I'll just have to wait for hours until the dialup brings it to my friendly screen.

7. Thanks Gloria. Clark is always the first to lay out
the scenarios that then come true. That is why when he speaks I listen carefully and make note. Clark truly is a courageous Democrat for speaking out on these dire national security issues made into national nightmares by the bush (mis) administration.

Go Clark :patriot: please continue to speak out so others may hear and learn before its too late.

9. Thank you Gloria!!
NOW is the time we should all be writing our Senators and Reps and letting them know what we expect of them, since they don't seem to know that they're actually supposed to provide some oversight and checks and balances on the fucking PNAC'ers running the show (into the ground).

Diplomacy MUST be the first thing on the table, NOT attacking. Jr and his PNAC cabal are on a mission and our Senators are supposed to be REPRESENTING US, not just sitting idly by while jr does what he wants. When will these spineless wonders get it that we are living under a wanna be dictator??? Argh!!!

I don't know how General Clark can stand it. How the hell does he stay so calm when he knows how fucked we are...

Please everybody write your Congresscritters and let them know we will not stand for this president acting like a dictator. It is up to THEM to put the brakes on this madness!!!

11. To write your congresscritters
if you use the link above and first put in your zip code it brings up your senators, reps and jr. You can then send one letter to all at once. I usually unclick jr's name but this time I sent it to him too.

I should have calmed down before hitting send, but I didnt... This is what I sent:

You are my voice in Washington. You MUST put the brakes on this
president and his PNAC administration and DEMAND that they use every ounce of
DIPLOMACY possible and NOT simply start dropping bombs on IRAN.

I pray to God that you will stand up and stop this wanna-be dictator in
his tracks. The PNAC crowd has a plan for perpetual war and this is NOT
what "we the people" want, nor what our country or the world deserves.

I pray that you will demand that every possible tactic - carrots and
sticks, TALKING to countries we don't like, bringing in allies to the
discussions - EVERYTHING must be tried before just using FORCE to make
the world the way we think it should be.

I beg you please take our country back to a country of LAWS, a country
that knows how to use diplomacy and a country that the rest of the
world can look up to and respect instead of fear and hate. Please take our
government back to a system of checks and balances, truth and justice. It
truly is up to you.
Please.

12. Thanks for the link Jen
I kind of think maybe you should write all of your letters to Congress while you are all riled up! If Bush goes ahead and bombs Iran without having at the very least honestly used up all other options all hell will break loose. And there will be protests in the streets. But if half of the people who will be protesting then would just write now possibly we can prevent this.

14. I've so far written to
my useless senators (Voinovich and Dewine) and my wonderful Rep. Ryan. Am now starting on the Dems - warning them to get ready - instead of standing idly by only to find themselves painted in a corner unable to do anything besides hem and haw trying to figure out how not to look bad once it's too late... I'm writing as many of them as I can. Probably wouldn't hurt to write the few sensible Repubs as well. I agree with you Tom, this is up to us to head them off at the pass!! Those guys are supposed to be representing US. I think they forget that.
