TPM Cafe has it right
First, the link of Reed Hundt's EXCELLENT PIECE:

http://www.tpmcafe.com/story/2005/12/31/141927/43
snip:

The Republican Plan for 06 will be for the President to set an agenda in January that will position the Party to save both houses of Congress in the fall. The entire year will be dedicated to the election, not to governing. No surprise there in this era of continual electioneering. The Democrats need to fight this fire with fire, coming out of the box with an election strategy of their own.

How true. This is a wonderful piece of insight that MUST be taken seriously. How many times have we been stunned by the shear AUDACITY of the Bush* Administration. They have no desire to actually govern. They are there for some very limited purposes, among which are the total destruction of The New Deal and everything associated with it, plundering the public coffers for the benefit of their benefactors, and control of absolute, brutal power.

Time to fight back....but where? Where is our "brain trust"? Where are the brilliant strategists to turn this around?

1. We've been saying for some time....
that the Repubs are already in campaign mode. That's the whole thing with the "great economy" and the "elections" in Iraq. They are defining those issues from their selective political perspective - not reality. Democrats must understand they cannot wait until October to start responding to these bastards.

2. Well, since you've asked ...
We can start by getting rid of the "We can do better" crapola. It just REEKS of temerity. Considering the state of the nation, who COULDN'T do better?

If the Repugs are going to focus on nothing but campaigning, they'll be hoping to distract the Dems from the rest of the shit they'll be pulling while running (i.e. ruining) the country.

Dems will have to respond to campaign slurs, Swiftoboating, etc. - but can't take their eyes off what's going on in the government.

So combine the two - be on the attack ALL THE TIME. Finger-point every time this Admin makes yet another incompetent, inefficient, unConstitional move. You've got to fight the battles as they arise, and not just focus on battles already in the past.

NEVER miss an opportunity to point to the actual state of affairs - the economy, the deficit, the debacle in Iraq, the loss of personal liberties, and the LIES, LIES, LIES.

And if fair elections isn't JOB ONE, all else is lost. If the Dems lose yet another election to Diebold and speak up about it AFTER THE FACT, it's 'sour grapes'. If they talk about it incessantly BEFORE THE ELECTION, there is NO viable Repug counter to it - what Repug is going to stand up and say, "We don't NEED fair elections in this country!"

Well, for what it's worth, that's my two-cents -- which, thnks to this Administration and the economy, is now only worth about .0001 of a penny.

3. I say take a page from Gingrich
on page 622 of Bill Clinton's book I found this:
Gingrich published a pamphlet titled: "Language: A Key Mechanism of Control"
Among the "contrasting words" Newt suggested for labeling Democrats were :

BETRAY
CHEAT
COLLAPSE
CORRUPTION
CRISIS
DECAY
DESTRUCTION
FAILURE
HYPOCRISY
INCOMPETENT
INSECURE
LIBERAL
LIE
PATHETIC
PERMISSIVE
SHALLOW
SICK
TRAITORS...
THIS PAMPHLET WAS PUBLISHED WELL BEFORE "mOOnica" CAME ON THE SCENE.And wrote it as a sitting House Speaker!!!!SCUM

we should attack, attack, attack.

4. All the "Chimp" knows how to do is spend our tax dollars on Air Force #1
Yes...he will go on the Campaign Trail and we cough up the dough to have only "selected Repugs" attend his Campaign Meetings across America.

For "Chimp" all he know is "going on the road." They have to keep him busy or he will implode.

He's like some "South Park' character. Not real, not a President but some "hybrid" we are supposed to condition ourselves to accept. Me eyes roll back in me head...at the thought....
