3. In Matthews defense, he isn't really very bright and
may have thought it was an actual charity.

or maybe not

14. True, Tweety's dumb
and he is sadly susceptible to flattery and the idea of being "connected" to the "important" folks.

Pitiful.

33. St. Andrews ain't just any golf outing
As a golfer, I can assure you jaunts to St. Andrews are not the norm for most golfers, not even most really good golfers, or ... even most connected golfers. It is golf's TOP SPOT. You even have to pass a "golf test" to qualify to play that course. I wondered last evening when listening to this if he was also able to get the credentials for that test "waived" or "doctored" for his pals.

7. Tweety even stumbles over Abramoff's name!
Has anyone else caught that?

Chris pronounces it either AY-bram-off or AH-bram off. Maybe it depends on the phases of the moon, or what's in his coffee. Or how much he wants to hide their relationship.

You get the impression that these guys have never met. Right?

10. Kind of like Bu$h and his "Kenny-boy Who?" routine.
I hardly knew Ken Lay. He was a big Ann Richards supporter.

Right. These fuckers are so disingenuous and transparent that the bright light of their deceptions shines right through them. I always figured that they had Tweety by the balls .. total control. Whenever he strayed (even slightly) from the propaganda script, he was quick to start kissing GOP ass again. Now, how do they control Tim Russert?

16. Bush did the same with Abramoff's name
He called him "Abramohoff". Christy Harvey was mocking him this morning.

"Heh, heh, if ah say his name wrong, they won't know he's mah friend! Heh, heh."

bush is saying..the abramoff scandal is bi-partisan?

"Despite Chris Matthews’ minimization of the Jack Abramoff scandal, a November 25, 2005 Washington Post article identified four lawmakers under investigation in connection to Abramoff -- former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX), Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT), Rep. Rob Ney (R-OH), and Rep. John T. Doolittle (R-CA) -- all Republicans. Our search of the Center for Responsive Politics database of campaign contributions did not find any contributions from Abramoff to Democrats or Democratic leadership political action committees.

Despite those facts, we have documented Washington Post staff writer Jeffrey H. Birnbaum miscasting the rising tide of ethics investigations and corruption scandals plaguing primarily Republican officials as a bipartisan problem. We have also noted a number of national media figures that have cast the recent spate of political scandals as "nonpartisan," while the vast majority of government officials who have been indicted or are under investigation are Republicans."

9. This could be innocent
I don't like Matthews, but it is possible that he signed on because it sounded like a good charity and there were other respectable people there.

Care should be taken to taint only those who clearly did something wrong - or it will turn into a "well everyone did it with good intentions" line. (The fact is that they are already putting out lists with people like Reid who may have only gotten legal campaign dollars.)

15. I agree
I'm no Tweety fan, but this is just a guilt by association thing and it lessens the culpability of those who were engaged in real wrongdoing.

24. Then why is tweety so
quick to be dismissive of the abramoff scandal? Just like traitorbob woodward?

"Despite Chris Matthews’ minimization of the Jack Abramoff scandal, a November 25, 2005 Washington Post article identified four lawmakers under investigation in connection to Abramoff -- former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX), Sen. 30. The nonpartisan /bipartisan nature of the scandal
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 12:40 PM by tishaLA
is obvious bullshit. But the question is whether Tweety did anything for which he should feel guilty...other than hanging out with Brit Hume and Tony Snow. He could have honestly believed he was doing something benevolent, even for a charity associated with conservative mouthpieces. It could be that Matthews was just generous with his time and he believed he was being a good citizen rather than contributing to systematic corruption.

Or he could have something to hide. But I won't believe it just because of some guilt by association logical fallacy.

Edited for Clarity.

27. No - I was meaning that there were other people who were
respectable. I agree the grammar is wrong - though maybe I can weasil out by saying that it makes sense if it's viewed from Matthews' perspective and that it is true because he thinks he's respectable.

Instead, I confess to using poor grammar in the earlier post.

34. The problem is solved if you simply leave out "other". And in fact the
sentence may reveal an important truth when written that way - Matthews is participating because there are respectable people there, no doubt hoping that some of the respectability will rub off on him - kind of like a mafia don sending his kids to an exclusive private school.

11. Hmmm... Not really surprised on this one
Of course this does a few things...

1. It implicates Matthews with one of Abramoff's many crimes.
2. It lumps together the Fox assholes as being a part of it as well.
3. It shows us how Matthews cavorts with Republican scumbags regularly (thus pissing on the good name of his former mentor Tip O'Neill)

and finally

4. It shows officially how poor Keith Olbermann is surrounded by right wing assholes on a network that tries to pretend it's somewhat balanced.

Fucking MSNBC....

Matthews needs to be suspended from speaking on this case while he's involved. Have a guest correspondent (NOT PAT BUCHANAN or one of those right wing defending fuckheads) do the Abramoff parts... like say Ron Reagan. His hands are clean.

35. Tweety's brother is a Republican running for Lt. Governor
It's not surprising he would support them. I wonder if CAF or other Abramoff-related enterprise has donated money?

In December 2005, Matthews' brother Jim announced that he was a Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Matthews

Matthews has always struck me as a confused little boy. The type of kid that wets his finger and sticks in the air to see which way the wind is blowing. There's a pretty good description of how Matthews made his career choices in the Demopedia - bottom line "celebrity" and money. The Demopedia also says that Matthews was mentored by Tim "Integrity is for paupers!" Russert and was seduced by Reagan and his politics :puke:.
