Cheney emerges from the bunker to spew a few lies
about His domestic eavesdropping/data mining program to the Heritage Foundation.
Washington Post

"The authorization the president made after September 11th helped address that problem in a manner that is fully consistent with the Constitutional responsibilities and legal authority of the president and with the civil liberties of the American people," Cheney said.

It was so consistent with the constitution even John Ashcroft refused to authorize it. I don't think dick has ever read it. He probably just read the cliff's notes. See amendment #4, dick.

"There are no communications more important to the safety of the United States than those related to al Qaeda that have one end in the United States"

Ok, fine, but that's not all they've been doing, by a long shot. dick knocks down another straw man.
I don't have any problem with any administration intercepting and monitoring calls of legitimate terror suspects. I do have a problem with Data Mining by the government, and blanket Eavesdropping on purely domestic communications, and with the executive branch collecting this information in Secret, with no congressional or judicial oversight, dick.

He said that activities under the secret monitoring program "have helped to detect and prevent possible terrorist attacks against the American people. As such, this program is critical to the national security of the United States."

The excerpts did not contain any examples of attacks that have been thwarted.

That last sentence says it all.
The bushies have been peddling the idea that their domestic spying saved the brooklyn bridge, but according to reliable sources, that was "a group of idiots who were planning to dismantle it with blow torches"

3. isn't it amazing how we react 2 these criminals?
I never thought that I would EVER in my life yell, scream, shake my fist @ the TV; or yell at the radio. I didn't do that during the Watergate hearings - I soaked it all up and listened day after day after day. I didn't yell once! Now I do it all the time.

5. My b/f keeps his finger on the mute button
whenever one of the liars is about to be shown and heard. If it weren't for streaming audio/video, I would forget what those bastards sound like... hmmm... that sounds good actually!

I've always felt animals were a great judge of character. I'd like to see how our little Jack Russell would react to any of those freaks!

9. The Watergate Hearings were.....
....held fairly, judiciously, and with great patriotism from both sides. I have always admired since then, Fred Thompson. The former Republican Senator from Tennessee, and now co-star of my favorite TV show, was the Republican Minority Counsel during those hearings. There wasn't a Democrat on the committee that was any harder on the Nixon Administration than Thompson. Same went for the entire Republican side of the table. THEY knew criminality when they saw it. What a change in a national party in only 30+ years.

10. The part where I turned him off was when
He said that if they had had such wire taps, they could have prevented Sept. 11th.

1) They had (legal) wire taps in place which made recordings on Sept. 10th. Those were missed because no one had time to TRANSLATE them.

2) If they are doing exactly what they say they are doing (which I personally don't believe), then this program would have still missed the buck because the alledged hyjackers WERE NOT AMERICAN CITIZENS!

Now, we come to the crux of this: if I, an Iowa mom & wife can figure it out, why can't the rest of our stupid, ignorant nation?!?

I'm beginning to think I need anger management courses. I would have had to sit on my hands to keep myself from running up on stage and slapping the snot out of Dick today.

""The authorization the president made after September 11th helped address that problem in a manner that is fully consistent with the Constitutional responsibilities and legal authority of the president and with the civil liberties of the American people," Cheney said."

C'mon buddy, you can't get away with these lies anymore. The right wing Scaife/Murdoch propoganda machine that propelled your entire party through the 1980's, 90's, and first half of the 00's has been tripped up by the internet information highway.

"The Democrats said the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and the Patriot Act "already provide the Executive Branch with far-reaching surveillance authority. They told Bush, "if you believed additional powers were necessary and justified, you should have requested that Congress consider granting them." They urged the administration to cooperate with possible congressional investigations aimed at determining "the nature and extent of the eavesdropping and data mining that you have undertaken, as well as the lawfulness and intelligence value of the program.""

Oops. I'll bet you won't hear that response on FOX news, or on squawk radio.
