1. justify my vote every six years |
|
DAMN glad that the proud senator from the great state of Rhode island is represented on this list. Others, especially RI representatives in congress should follow his example. Vote their conscience, but follow his lead.

He doesn't get a lot of press coverage and I'm sure that's because he's from RI. But, I like the fact that he votes how he believes. He doesn't seem to be a headline grabber. He's a class act.

given the circumstances and after a hesitant start. Boxer stands out because of her courage. The rank and file (us voters) wanted a fight long before most of our elected reps got up the nerve or felt they could.
Edited to add: Sadly, the bar has to be set pretty low.

4. Many had very good to excellent years. |
|
I just used his criterion of 100% on 50 votes for the list. I was proud of a lot of the Senators. Reid showed what a minority leader acts like. Other Senators stood out this year on a variety of issues.

6. I don't know that I can agree. |

Being disabled, I have had a lot of time to watch cspan and the televised "news" offerings. After the shock of the so-called election, I allowed myself to stay off DU for a couple months but stayed up, as much as possible. I felt the entire dem entourage suffered from dismay and depression (projection, maybe?) and got off to a slow and rocky start.

13. Many suffer from being snowed and conned by the proBush media, too. |
|
They wake upo every day with the same swill newsmedia we do. We just have more time to digest other sources than they do - and we have to root it out wherever we can.
There should be a DUer on staff of every Democrat in DC.

5. Feingold should be on there |
|
regardless of his score. He has done so much to fight the Patriot Act and to bring troops home, that it more than makes up for it.

7. Harry Reid should be there too |
|
His skill in playing what is really a very weak Democratic hand has ben an inspiration. He has outmanuevered Kitty Killer Frist time and time again. I am sure the rethugs regret putting so much time and effort into defeating Doormat Daschle.

than Daschle did during his entire term in the leadership.

9. I would really rather vote for 'all Dems' |
|
becuase they achieved some unity and forced the Repubs to vote on that bill that demanded some accountability from the Bush Admin on their actions in Iraq. That was a watershed moment and I am proud of all the Dems who participated in that.

10. All 7 are great Senators. |
|
And other Dem Senators have done good things this year, even if they didn't vote perfectly on all 50 of the key votes that were used for this.
But for all the crap he's been taking here and at the other lefty blogs all year, much of it untrue or unfairly broad-brush, my vote goes to John Kerry. Despite all the crap, he never wavered. He's been a strong voice on many key issues, not to mention the success of beating back ANWR drilling at the close of the session. And Geiger doesn't mention it, but Kerry was the first Senator to make an issue of the Downing Street Memo(s).

letter of inquiry, when the media was still trying to ignore the story altogether.
So, though I definitely have historic favorites, I still believe that there are at least a dozen who have earned top kudos in 2005.

Why did he not make this list?
On September 22nd, 2005, Senator Mark Dayton (D-MN) introduced the Department of Peace legislation into the U.S. Senate.
Speaking from the Senate floor, Dayton said, “If we are to remain the world’s leader, and if we are to lead the world into a more secure and more prosperous future, we must become better known and more respected for our peacemaking successes than for our military forces. Peace, to have any lasting value, must be advanced, expanded and strengthened continuously. Doing so requires skill, dedication, persistence, resources, and, most importantly, people.”
