So Lynn Swann is running for PA Governor as a Repug
What is it with these jocks going repug? Tom Osborne, JC Watts, Steve Largent and now the Swannie.

Too bad. He would have made a good Democrat. Now we need to bury him.

1. It's all about the money - Swann is more "GREEN" than Black
BTW, how many African-Americans can you count in this picture.

He's sold his soul out to the republican parties.

The worst thing is there is no way Swann, a former Pittsburgh Steeler, has any shot in Philadelphia. And with Rendell probably campaigning with probable senate candidate Bob Casey (a very popular democrat from Western PA) it'll be a challenging but easy win

5. Franco Harris campaigned for Kerry in PA, so don't be
ashamed of all former Steelers.

I always liked Franco more, anyway.

8. but Swannie was the highlight film,
Stallworth definately better all around receiver, IMHO.

As for Swann's candidacy I don't think he'll be much of a challenge for Rendell. There will be a point in time during the campaign where Swann's political inexperience will show as will his supposed arrogance (the latter coming from my brother) that will ultimately hurt him with moderates.

7. Franco wasn't running for office, though
See, it's one thing for a celebrity to endorse a candidate (in most cases, a Repuke sits there and says "What do celebrities know???" when the celeb has actually researched an issue and advises a candidate/politico - read: Bono of U2).

It's another thing when a celebrity actually runs for office - "Miss Jane Hathaway" vs Sonny Bono - guess which one was smeared by the Republicans as "what do celebrities know?"

11. "He would have made a good Democrat"
Why do you say that, may I ask?

If you've heard his platform, or his positions, you wouldn't say that.

Is it because he's a good speaker? Because he can raise money? Because he's a minority? Because he's a celebrity?

Or is it because he's a Steeler. It hurts me too.

But hey, he's before my time, so I don't remember him, so I'm like, "Lynn who?".

13. For the same reason someone made the observation that he
won't do well in Philly. Most blacks are democrats.

For the record, I think he stands a decent chance because a lot of black dems and Steeler dems will cross the line because they like Swann.

12. He's pro-corporation, anti-choice, and says the Dem party has used and
taken for granted the "black vote."

He's unqualified and too stupid to know he is being used himself.

14. Mfume supporters also say dems take the black vote for granted
because he is not getting as much support from the DNC as his primary opponent. Swann is not the first to say that.

I think the Congressional Black Caucus is our most staunch core group. Any national candidate that comes from this group should expect broad support from the party, in my opinion.

15. What is this country's obsession with jocks and other entertainers?
Still mystified.
