Henry's Hyde's response to my letter
I emailed Henry Hyde, my rep, asking him for action on impeaching Bush for the illegal wiretapping. I reminded him that he was front and center impeaching Clinton and I felt this issue was more serious and injurious to our nation than Clinton's blowjob.

His response is exactly what I expected, but I wrote just so he got SOME feedback from his constituents. I doubt it even made him think more than 1 second but hell, I'm glad I did it.

Here's his response:

January 5, 2006

Ms. XXXXXXXXX
Wheaton, Illinois

Dear Ms. XXXXXX:

Thank you for writing. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts
with me about President Bush. Although I do not share the same
opinion about him, I do believe that President Bush has aptly
outlined a course of action that addresses where we need to go as a
nation.

You and I may have a difference of opinion, but I do hope there
are other issues where we may agree. Thank you again for writing.

Very Truly Yours,

Henry J. Hyde

3. Just what I'd expect from Humper Hyde. No man's wife was
safe until Humper got old, couldn't get it up, and became a Statesman.

4. So what he's REALLY saying is...
he led the impeachment against Clinton because he didn't like his policies.

I think I would write back and call him out on that one.

Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 01:27 PM by dicknbush
I just called and told the lady that we now know that Hydes support of Bill Clintons impeachement had nothing to do with upholding the law but was in fact a sham that used the principle of law as a facade!

5. This is pathetic...and he really had an opportunity because..
He is not running for office again. He could have been consistent in his crticism that may have elevated him to another level but he just proved the fact that the impeachment of Bill Clinton was not in fact about the law but instead was in fact revenge/grudge take your pick but certainly had nothing to do with the rule of law!.

8. Hypocrit Hyde when it was Democrat "Breaking" the law
"The phrase "rule of law" is no pious aspiration from a civics textbook. The rule of law is what stands between all of us and the arbitrary exercise of power by the state. The rule of law is the safeguard of our liberties. The rule of law is what allows us to live our freedom in ways that honor the freedom of others while strengthening the common good. The rule of law is like a three- legged stool: one leg is an honest judge, the second leg is an ethical bar, and the third is an enforceable oath. All three are indispensable to avoid political collapse."

Henery Hyde Pompous Git!

9. I'm sure you expected that kind of response from Hypocrite Henry Hyde.
I'd write him back and remind him of his statements in 1998 about the "rule of law" and his "youthful indiscretions" at the age of 46.

Hypocrisy and arrogance = Republican "values"...

12. I would if I thought it would make a dent
But it's futile. I did it just to make sure Mr. Henry "Youthful Indiscretions" Hyde got at least some email from his oh-so-red constituency. Frankly, I didn't think he would send anything back.

As an FYI, my 18 year old daughter sent him an email with "Rule of Law?" in the heading.... She wasn't as polite as I and definitely brought up his eternal "rule of law" rants PLUS his "youthful indiscretions". LOL. We'd had a long discussion at the New Year's Day dinner table and although fairly a-political (please fellow DU'ers, cut her some slack as she's only 18 years old), I was pleasantly surprised to get a copy of her email to Hyde a day after our discussion.

She mentioned in her email that she was a youth in government participant and actually sat in his seat in the state legislature, and how disappointed in him she was as a rep.

I told her I am curious what sort of response SHE gets. Probably the same one. Alas.

10. at least he has a generic letter for critics
I hate getting generic crap that doesn't allude to the fact that I am a critic. I hate getting crap back from Kay Bailey Hutchison...

13. Boilerplate Bullshit
That is the same crap I've gotten for years from my Texas reps and now my Carolina reps. It is insulting, demeaning, and it goads me into treating them not with respect, but -- rather -- as turds in an unflushed bowl. That is truly how I feel about the likes of Pete Sessions, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, John Cornyn, Jim Dimwitt, Charles Taylor, and a host of other GOP shills. Little pieces of un-flushed excrement. Then there is Bu$h.
