Go, Randi, tell us like it is about money in radio.
Keep your independent voice. Some folks here need to hear this in the archive. I won't try to transcribe. About 4:48 PM, 2nd hour of show, on Jan. 5, 2006

4. I will never again listen to Big Eddie. He lost me.
He has all the party bigwigs, you see. Just imagine why he toes the line on the upstart chairman of the DNC...maybe it is time to see that, you know. Nothing is accidental.

7. He really is!
I had to turn off Randi when she was repeating that same old story when she compares herself to a slave on the auction block. Hyperbole much, Randi? To say nothing of insensitive.

Ed is far from perfect, that's true. But he speaks to flyover America and appeals to different listeners than the woman who took herself off "the slave block." OMG.

9. Thanks Tisha... it's an AWESOME show today!!!
And I could care less (sorry Deb) if he likes Dungeness Crab..

He's on fire today! I especially liked the info from Leon Panetta and really wished that everyone here could hear what he said today. He spoke about the BOGUS allegations from the rightwing about how Clinton also was involved in illegal spying.

If you missed it.. you should check the archives later.

Randi is great too Florida... But Eddie is on fire today!!

Madeline Albright should be on in a little while.. :)

10. Well, that is what our DSCC and DCCC are trying to do.
They care more about getting candidates who are veterans and/or anti-choice and pro-corporate....than about their own party base.

Big Ed appeals to people who love his telling Dean to get his head out of his ass...when he is working his butt off in the south and Ed knows it.

He lied about Dean, and he excoriated Murtha as well. Big Ed appeals to the uneducated "middle" and he does little to educate. Remember how the DLC makes fun of us "educated activists.?" Well, Ed does it as well by not researching.

11. It's terribly insensitive, and maybe outrageous
to compare yourself to being a slave on the auction block, as Ms. Rhodes did today. To me, it's probably as bad as spreading gossip about Murtha being a drunk.

But I'll continue to listen to both of them because I'm not one to throw babies out with bathwater. I think they both do important work and appeal to different audiences.

BTW, his interview with Madeline Albright, right now, is very informative. It's educating me, unlike comments wherein radio talk show hosts analogize themselves to slaves on auction blocks.

13. No, it was Ed who was on the auction block.
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 05:35 PM by madfloridian
You know it. You go ahead and enjoy him. I don't always like any radio host, but I despise him.

I have a folder full of snide communications from that show, after a lot of us sent FACTS to him. He cares nothing about facts.

He is the one who is going to be sure to keep Dean or anyone who ever crossed TPTB....marginalized and put down. He does it well.

AND it is terribly insensitive to tell the party chairman who never hurt Big Eddie to pull his head out of ass. It was tasteless.

16. She compared *herself* to a slave on the auction block
and said she didn't like it so she told Ed, "Go ahead. You have it." Fortunately, there are archives that will verify that account. It's a horrible, hyperbolic thing to say no matter what one may or may not feel about either Mr. Schultz or Ms. Rhodes generally.

17. She said that on C-Span as well. I agree with her.
I realize the Democrats need their own media, I have no gripe with that.

But to get someone like Ed, who never researches and never apologizes, who despises the party chairman irrationally...it is not doing us favors.

"Fortunately there are archives"...well, my friend, there are also archives at C-Span...and here where I posted it.

I resent very much your implying I was not telling the truth by your "fortunately there are archives.". I do resent that.

Look at Ed's guests most of the time, get a feel.

18. It's good to know she repeats that analogy
and that people are comfortable with a pampered talk show host comparing herself to a "slave on the auction block." It's telling indeed. I must have missed it when she said "slave on the auction block" on C-SPAN because I think it's a vile, outrageous analogy to make.

For the record, I said that "fortunately there are archives" because they will show that she analogizes herself with a slave on the auction block--a sentiment you now seem to endorse!--whereas before you said "it was Ed who was on the auction block."

You love Big Eddie, I won't, that simple. His mind thinks simply, and he does not research. He annoys me.

20. I don't "love" "Big Eddie"
to think that of someone who doesn't relentlessly disparage him, in essence, is to fall prey to the same sin Schultz has been accused of--thinking simply. In fact, I was the one who started harping on him calling Murtha a drunk. But I don't think he's all bad, either, just because he says things I disagree with. Case in point: Randi Rhodes today compared herself to a "slave on the auction block"--a vile sentiment she has apparently said at other times and that at least some posters approve of. I could say, "Well, that is so racially insensitive and historically vulgar, I can never listen to her again because of it." But I won't.

I don't love Ms. Rhodes nor "Big Eddie." I see them as I see most people: as both good and bad, with good points and bad. I am happy that both are finding an audience.

21. They were "bidding" at the luncheon at Landrieu's house. Bidding.
250 thousand 350 thousand...and so on. They were bidding for Ed or Randi, and/or. I have a post here of what I transcribed from C-Span, or notes anyway.

I call that bidding, so I would say her description is fine.

I don't like any of them all the time, but I have no respect for any radio host who calls Murtha drunk and tells Dean to get his head out of his ass. That was a stupid thing to do, and I have a folder full of communications to his show.

They knew they were dead wrong about Dean, as he was traveling Southern states right then. But they did not care.

That is what separates a bad host...the caring about truth or not caring.

For a pampered talk show host, with her highlighted hair and her cosmetic surgery and her Manhattan pied a terre! How racially insensitive! How vile and outrageous!

23. Why are you getting so ugly about it. Media was bidding like an auction.
That is not my fault, and I don't give a you know what how you view Randi.....but don't take your attitude about her out on me.

They were bidding.. media companies were bidding on them.

24. it has nothing to do with you
I'm sorry you have to personalize it like that, particularly when you have told me that I "love" "Big Eddie" etc. Instead, I am interested in the racial insensitivity of a pampered talk show hostess making vile, vulgar statements comparing her "plight" to slaves at an auction block before she scampers back to her pied a terre. I'm amazed some can see that kind of sentiment as defensible.

8. It is too late. Randi and all the others tear Bush a "new one" as well.
And they do not rant and rave outrageously about the party chairman needing to get his head out of his ass....or about a good man like Murtha being drunk.

But then, I have always said the Clinton folks were in control of Democracy Radio....and they were.

There is no excuse for Big Eddie attacking those two good men.

He will not be forgiven for that.

27. I did everything asked of me last year.
We became active in the party again. We donated and worked for Kerry after Dean dropped out. We have been good Democrats again, after not being that active for a while.

I will no longer just accept the fact that we can not burn bridges. The blame for what Big Eddie did lies with him. It does not lie with me to accept it.

It is his fault for being so hardheaded. Did you see Murthan and Moran on C-Span tonight? Murtha is very much not a person you would expect to criticize a war, and it gives him great credibility. Ed should not have gone after him to impress his new listeners on Armed Forces Radio.

It was just wrong. He owes apologies now for blasting Dean and for attacking Murtha.

I will burn any bridges I see fit to burn, because I did it the other way for too long. People need to do the right thing now, or they lose my support.

28. Perhaps burning bridges was
the wrong term for me to use. I agree that Schultz did the wrong thing by buying his way into syndication. I think Murtha said the right thing when he was asked if he would join the military today. I also agree that if anyone has the right to speak about military matters it should be Mr. Murtha. I also think Schultz is saying all of this because of his new listeners on Armed Forces Radio. All of that being said I have to compliment Schultz on the stance he takes on Unions and Veterans affairs. I spent 8 years in the Navy, during the 60's, and 40 years in 3 different Unions. Those 2 subjects are very, very importnt to me so I pick and choose the topics that I want to listen to. He is the strongest voice I know when it comes to Unions.

I'll be the first person to hold anybody's feet to the fire to ensure they keep their word and don't tread on my civil rights but, I heard this a few days ago, I won't burn down the forest just to kill the fox.

29. I am just one person who is refusing to listen to him.
It did not bother him in June when we sent info about Dean to correct him. It did not bother him this November either when we did the same thing.

So it appears he has no concern about correcting facts. This is my decision not to listen. Others have every right to do so.
