Bartcop strikes back
Reference: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=2342633&mesg_id=2342633

"Bartcop's always been a littlw wacky. My theory is he's been sniffing glue or he's been bought off.
The open hypocrisy of his position on Mrs Clinton who I really don't find all so intolerable, is so
completely off the mark that I gotta wonder if someone hasn't agreed to pay for his chemo in exchange
for a little hammer service. Of course, a more realistic assesment is (Wonder why he didn't start with
the realistic assesment instead of the cheap shot?) that he's a surly curmudgeon who's just damn tired
of losing and is willing to try a Hail Mary pass."
-- "Bucky" on a Democratic Underground Forum

They really, really hate Hillary on the DU Forums.
Reading the glee in their hate speech makes me think they'd sooner vote for Rush or Bush

They also can't believe my "idiocy" about Hillary being the front-runner.
They want to know "in which alternative universe is that true?"

Gee, I'm so old, I remember when being 30 points ahead of your nearest challenger (43-14 for Kerry)
made you the favorite, but I guess the rules are different on the Democratic Underground Forums

Too bad they're not able to find their way over here - to bartcop.com

2. Z-z-z-z-z-z
Old Bart and I have long since parted ways, mostly over his insane insistence on keeping the option to torture folks open and on the table.

If Bart wants to register a handle and take part in the free give-and-take here at DU, I'd welcome his participation as I agree with many points he makes. But to snipe away from his safe perch where he controls all content and edits emails to suit his tastes seems disingenuous to me.

I'll forbear saying what I think of his water carriers.

11. Is he really pro-torture?
How disappointing. I can handle pro-Hillary, but pro-torture is disgusting.

12. I exchanged several emails with him
I, too, was a regular reader and contributor to his site and even took a few phone calls from him, thanking me personally for donations. I really like much of what he has to say.

But Bart and I parted ways several months ago, when it was clear that he'd fallen in love with the ticking time bomb scenario. I explained every way I could why I thought torture was wrong, and shot multiple holes in the scenario, but he wouldn't or couldn't budge on the issue. I finally said that as much as I liked and respected so much of what he did, I just couldn't get around this issue to make peace, and that as long as he kept up with justifying torture, even based on the far-fetched ticking time bomb scenario, I couldn't support him with web hits or money any longer.

4. A reasonable response to an outrageous assessment, IMO.

But it doesn't surprise me that some here would find the over-the-top analysis of bartcop perfectly within the realm of acceptance, particularly making light of his cancer diagnosis. Nice.

5. I think Bucky's remarks are insulting
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 07:04 PM by Frances
I don't like to be on the same board with someone who does not argue rationally. And, at this point, I support both Warner and Clark over Hillary, so I am not objecting to Bucky's being anti-Clinton, just the way he fails to argue in a rational way.

7. It is a comedy page. Says so right up top.
I think he is brilliant and edgy and dangerous. Just don't share his enthusiasm for Hillary and torture. He has shown, though, that he can change his mind to support the common good. After he had weighed the evidence, heard the testimony, and reviewed the mainstream media, he knew in his heart that it was right and good to support the mighty Texas Longhorns.

9. uh, what 'they' is he talking about?

It's a little a wierd that BartCop doesn't allow for hyperbole by the folks he disagrees with.

As facts go, there's always a flavor-of-the-month Democratic candidate; s/he always gets about 40% support. I guess there's a philosophical question about where flash-in-the-pan ends and frontrunner status begins, but why bother with it at all at this point?

I used to go to BartCop a fair amount. Not every political blog should be sober or analytic or prosaic or wise...but in the long run a solid and confident relationship with reality needs to be in it somewhere for it to remain attractive.

15. because you don't get it and don't want to.
He is not a Hillary worshiper nor is anyone here. That is a gratuitous snide remark meant to marginalize a conversation you don't want to have. This technique used by some here at DU to throw ice water on conversations other people want to have, about this or any other candidate or issue, should be restrained by the moderators because it isn't fair to others, but it is not. Kudos. You win.

17. I'm a big fan of Bart. I've played poker with the man...
And I think, given the polls, it is logical to call Hillary the "front runner" at this point. I think it's a farily meaningless title this far out from the election, but I do think it's justified. I'll wait and see regarding his predictions about Hillary. I don't believe it, but if she does like he predicts and turns antiwar in 06 or 07, more power to him. If not, well, I've made plenty of political predictions that didn't work out.

22. staying out of this little squabble
not mine to wage, and I chose to publically state that I find the fueling of such tit for tat responses accomplish nothing but tend to, over time, eat up more and more space, as more and more folks get pulled in.
