Great LTTE smackdown in my local Republican newspaper yesterday
Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 12:13 PM by corkhead
I thought this was a concise response to the kool-aid drinkers that say those of us who don't blindly support their "godly" president are traitors, should move out of the country, etc. There are usually one or two of those types of letters in this paper each day. Here was a refreshing alternative to that...

LESLIE -- Republicans, or specifically Bush-backers, believe speaking truths about the wrongs committed by George Bush are acts in support of terrorism. Under that premise, the "good Germans" who refused to speak out against Hitler while he raped the world were patriots, while men like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and the like were terrorists because, after all, they had the gall to speak out against the tyranny of their government and take action against it. These men went on to write the most important document in history, and I believe Americans who use the freedoms inherited from that document to speak out against men who fear, despise and spit on it (the Bush-backers) are today's true patriots.

So, Bush-backers, don't you dare wrap yourself in my flag and your Bible and tell me torture is OK, because if it is, you are the Romans driving nails in Jesus while absolving yourselves with a symbolic washing of hands. Don't tell me kidnapping, holding men without charge, spying on countrymen and subverting the U.S. Constitution are OK, because if they are, you have become that which you claim to abhor. You have become the terrorists, and I will not sit by quietly, waving a bloody American flag in support of a lunatic terrorist because he attaches the title "President of the United States" to his name, especially a man unfit to be addressed by so honorable a title.

I was brought up to believe the law is more important than the man, and the man is bound by the Constitution, not the other way around. That is a concept Bush-backers cannot understand. They confuse blind loyalty with patriotism. They are "good Germans."

edit to fix my poor grammar in the opening sentence of my intro...

I can hear the welling soundtrack in my head. Someone tap this letter writer to pen speeches for '06 congressional candidates.

9. That was an awesome letter. I love the way it communicates
what we've all been calling for/saying so succinctly. I LOVE that she calls * out as the terrorist he is.

10. Oooh, that is a good one!
Especially for Jackson!

I live in the boonies between Jackson & Chelsea, and I send my LTTEs to the Ann Arbor News. Maybe I should send them to the Jackson paper too.

I actually got a call from the A2News today about a letter I emailed yesterday (regarding the wiretapping) so I think I am getting printed :)

13. we need them in Jackson; you're preaching to the choir in A2
and we have some real nutjobs writing regularly in the citpat. However, I think calling them out by name like some do only seems to encourage them. I believe they are just attention starved despots.

Anyhoo, Howdy Neighbor, I too am in the Jackson County boonies; in the north west corner...

24. How about the Battle Creek Enquirer?
I've had a couple printed there, but they've been getting inundated with Bushists lately. That one would go here pretty well.

Btw, maybe we need a Meet-up? Jackson might be a good place to meet.

25. I would love to but
No longer living in the mid Michigan Area. I come back to visit regularly though. I was thinking that maybe in battle creek you should call tim collins at WBCK. Go on the Saturday morning show.

26. I'd never thought of that.
Hmmm. Maybe we need to do something like that to energize the local Dems. We are many but not very organized, from what I hear. I keep forgetting to go to the meetings.

More of a move towards Nazism when you question why newspapers print articles against the Furher.

For using that text to send to my local paper? Cite it? Just use it? It says better what I in my poor command of the language could ever say.

22. You'd have to cite it and give credit
Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 06:24 PM by lwfern
You can't just copy and paste and sign your name to it - that would be plagiarism, and we complain when the other side does it. Actually, I got one LTTE published that did nothing but point out that a previous (neofundie) letterwriter copied their entire letter off a website, word for word, and that if the writer couldn't form an opinion of their own, perhaps they needed to take up a new hobby.

19. Bush is rolling back 800 years of legal rights
Great LTTE, congratulations!

"Is this to be a nation that recognizes nearly 800 years of Anglo-American legal precedent in which even the nation's chief executive is subject to the rule of law, or one that allows that leader to assume the unchecked rights of a sovereign during the Middle Ages?"
