Bloomberg debunked Bush claim - Abramoff "an equal money dispenser"
Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 11:57 AM by Liberal_Andy
"Abramoff's 'Equal Money' Went Mostly To Republicans"

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000103&sid=arVHles5cKJc&refer=us

"Between 2001 and 2004, Abramoff gave more than $127,000 to Republicans and nothing to Democrats, federal records show."

I know this is old, but Bloomberg looks more unbiased than most websites with this info. Thought this a good source.

Also Media Matters, same subject:

1. MSNBC/CNN aren't going to care
Or even report on this.

2. MSNBC and CNN know the truth, but their job is to promote the GOP lies -
they are hardly real news networks at this point in the fascist agenda.

6. Not completely (as to MSNBC). This is from Countdown last night:
OLBERMANN: And speaking of that, the members, is this, in fact, going to wind up being bipartisan, the prosecutions? I mean, there are many Democrats who also have seemed to have been on Abramoff‘s money-dispensing list. Does it reflect equally poorly on both sides of the political aisle?

MULLINS: There‘s no doubt that this is a Republican scandal. Politically, Democrats may have a little more difficulty saying that Congress was corrupt if they were also taking these trips, and their staffers have been hired by Jack Abramoff. But at the end of the day, this is a Republican scandal.

(Brody Mullins is a reporter from the WSJ)

10. If only Olbermann influenced the news segments for MSNBC - too bad
Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 12:11 PM by blm
he needs to go on at 8pm to squeeze out some of the actual facts into a 5 or 10 minute segment.

3. Thank you Bloomberg.
Sheesh. It's getting almost impossible to get the truth out, these days.

And watch, still people will repeat the lie.

9. MSM and cable "news" have become completely paranoid about
telling the truth when it comes to republican scandals less they become accused of being part of the liberal media. There is no more reporting, only ad time.

5. Even that headline is misleading
"Abramoff's 'Equal Money' Went Mostly To Republicans".. It went exclusively to Republicans.

7. F.A.I.R. said 300 pro-war MSM interviews in FEB/MAR 03, only 3 anti-war...
interviews. FAIR is Fairness And Accuracy In Reporting. The MSM is unabashed, corporate agents and spokespersons for their financial interests, NOT pundits for the dissemination of truth to the electorate. The MSM waits until the truth has AGED and impotent to recount historical errors and propaganda lies exposed by independant medias. Pathetic equal access facade by the MSM has proven to benefit the aristocracy that runs the U.S. and the U.S. government's multi-national corporate client base.

8. I've posted two threads on this. I saw it in a comment on Daily Kos.

I'm glad Media Matters has it up.

Thanks to a comment by 2lucky on Daily Kos:

Bloomberg
is the only agency I've seen that placed the contributions in an appropriate context:

Between 2001 and 2004, Abramoff gave more than $127,000 to Republican candidates and committees and nothing to Democrats, federal records show.

At the same time, his Indian clients were the only ones among the top 10 tribal donors in the U.S. to donate more money to Republicans than Democrats.

Abramoff's tribal clients continued to give money to Democrats even after he began representing them, although in smaller percentages than in the past.

The Saginaw Chippewas gave $500,500 to Republicans between 2001 and 2004 and $277,210 to Democrats, according to a review of data compiled by Dwight L. Morris & Associates, a Bristow, Virginia-based company that tracks campaign-finance reports. Between 1997 and 2000, the tribe gave just $158,000 to Republicans and $279,000 to Democrats.

What Abramoff did was succeed in getting the tribes he represented to give more $ to Republicans than they previously had.

Who knew?

I thought it added some needed context to the issue.

11. We'll see if Democrats flinch
The lie is out there that somehow the broad net sweeping up corrupt congress critters who took Abramoff's money might net a Democrat or two in addition to dozens of Republicans. Will the Democrats flinch, or is this a meta-strategy designed to pre-emptively explain GOP inaction? That is, will the GOP do nothing, as we suspect they will, but cover their corrupt fannies by saying that the Democrats didn't push for an investigation because they're dirty, too?

14. "Democrats didn't push for an investiation"?
Again, they blame the Democrats.

So, AGAIN, use the tried and true response.....

"Democrats didn't push for an investigation because....it's a REPUBLICAN-CONTROLLED congress."

Republicans hate when we use "Republican-controlled Congress" against them. ( If they can spin, so can we.)

. drip...drip...drip...

16. Yeah, the GOP likes to pretend
When it suits them, they like to pretend that the Democrats have all the power in DC. The curious thing is why the media feels compelled to play along when they do that.

12. Here's an analogy to throw at the Busheep
Next time they try to feed you this bullshit that a contribution from an Indian tribe (or other Abramoff client) is equal to money from Jack 'Off himself, ask them if they think a contribution from "Ex-ENRON Employees Who Got Screwed" would be equal to hush money from Kenny Boy Lay.

17. That's a GREAT point - You should start a thread with it to make sure
as many Dems as possible get a chance to read it. It would be a great help for those engaged in the battle.
