Freeper Disconnect.
Okay, I'm a Canadian, I should let that be know first hand, so I don't sound like a complete buffoon in my knowledge. I read lots of the late breaking news on this site, and I get my other news from mostly newspapers and the CBC here in Canada.

Somehow I saw a reference to the Free Republic here, when I was reading their take on the current news, ie Abramoff, Bush Spying, Delay ousting vote etc... I came to the conclusion, that compared to the tinfoil hats that are sometimes worn here, these guys are in a complete disconnect from any reality that I can see on this planet. A Fully Unreasonable Titanium Umbrella.

They think Abramoff was a democrat plant, put in in 1996 to give them an upper hand in the 2006 election. not kidding
They think Delay is getting railroaded and is a good christian, and that is the reason he is getting prosecuted. not kidding
Bush's spying was awesome, and reporting on it made everyone very unsafe, the terrorist threat is far too great right now, and they will just switch the way they communicate, to something other than phone cel phone, sat phone or email.... like maybe ESP... or a new fangled international pony express. Fed-Ex didn't come up though.

I have to ask, seriously here

WTF

Is it really that bad in America right now? These people have nothing but extreme paranoia, and a foaming hate for the left, there is no place for political discourse, just absolutes and unbending patriotic fervor.

Is this all the doing of Fox News, and Limbaugh? Or is there something more?

It was very scary, to me, a liberal from a somewhat sane nation.

I really need you to take care America, because I don't like where this is heading at all, You are losing more than your freedoms and rights, you are going to be losing your right to exist. I think there is a fight coming, and if it doesn't, we can no longer be friends.

a very concerned northern neighbour. ( Cdn Spelling )

1. I made the mistake of trying to argue with a freeper on another board
It's like tying to put your heard through the wall, they shift the subject to talking points, they refuse to engage in rational discussion and they will not show independant thought of their own.

It's quite sad.

2. "titanium umbrella"

I am so stealing that!

OK.
Good points.

But plenty of people are waking up as the actions of the * administration get harder and harder to defend.

The logic used by the corporate media to continue to excuse these actions is already stretched paper thin and a great rending seems eminent.

The question then will be...

What will those rotten bastards do?

:scared:

3. fifteen yrs. of Rash Limpballs . . .
. . . I've seen college-educated men latching onto his intense hatred with glazed looks in their eyes. He appeals to their inner sycophant, their inner hitler . . . and, unfortunately there are millions of them, and they are running the show. For now. They are about to get smacked upside the head with years of instant karma. I hope.

4. You have to understand....
Trying to argue with a "freeper" or any other NeoCon shill, is like trying to argue with a wall.

A wall with dirty words on it.

They cannot and will not debate you. Disprove their points, they simply bring up anotherr straw horse or bullet point. Their minds are made up, don't confuse them with the facts or truth.

Be warned though, they have exported their hate northwards. Take a look at their sister site, "Free Dominion", and see your home-brewed "freepers" in action.

7. It's scary. I work with a few people who are steadfastly clinging to their
jingoistic patriotism and worship of gwb beyond all reason.

They (the gwb supporters) went from smug certainty two or three years ago to today's siege mentality, all without questioning for one single, solitary second the actions of this amoral criminal.

Two characteristics that I see with them...They love catch phrases that are rigid and "patriotic".
(for example, "geoge bush is my president" and "the people have spoken" regarding the last election)

The second characteristic...they blame everyone but themselves for any situation in which they have personal accountability. MKJ

9. As another non-American
I'm scared shitless by what I read over at Free Republic. The very few sane voices of moderate republicanism over there are completely drowned out by the loonies.

Compared to my own country (Britain) it astounds me how the political centre of American politics is so far to the right of Britain's, and the rest of western Europe, for that matter. These people inhabit a different planet to mine. Even right-wing tories/conservatives that I know here in the UK would be shocked by some of the ignorance on display at FR.

13. Please, don't
Use FR as a staple for the American forum. It is a crappy-looking website where very angry and sometimes deranged people can vent their prejudice amongst there own.

They are NOT mainstream. The only reason they post such tripe is the knowledge that it is the Internet, and they can bash someone from behind their computers.

28. Fair point.
Freepers may not be mainstream but it's their party that wields the power and i stand by my claim that the political centre in US politics is frighteningly to the right of all western European countries.

30. I see what you mean, however
The Freepers are those who cannot or do not choose to think for themselves, they follow what's easy and convenient.

The party in power represents an extremely small amount of the actual American public. They operate on lies and deception to achieve money, whatever the cost of anyone else.

Personally, I am sick and tired of the country I was once proud of being from huddled together and associated with the criminals who took advantage of our sorrow and spun it. I'll stop now, lest a rant be not too far off.

22. I think it is symptomatic of american culture
The gun forum at DU alarms me, when otherwise rational democratically inclined people seem to think it's a normal routine to carry a concealed firearm I wonder what mindset exist in the average US citizen.

Similarly the health care system in the richest nation is scandalous, this can only happen in a country where their own people are valued so poorly that entire sections of the community are left to rot.

I think the freepers are just the extreme wing of a nation where being poor or ill seems to be your own fault. There just doesn't seem to be a culture of collective responsibilty. Where such initiatives are taken it seems to come from a grass roots level.

10. Yes, it's that bad.

We've got a LOT of work to do to get this country back into the hands of the sane people, and then get the brainwashed people in a condition where they can be responsible about their own self government.

Do US a favor and watch your own backwoods, too eh? We wouldn't want the fascists to gain a foothold there.

Perhaps coal will become the fuel of the future. I agree with you, there are so many other things that could be substituted. Even if we all must stick to the oil addiction there are plenty of other sources other than Saudi Arabia. The OPEC cartel is an agreement made in hell.

Well one thing I know is that Southern Democrats were more like today's Republicans in the past. The Zell Miller type of Democrat. Somehow tho I just can't see you voting for a Clinton. Doesn't compute! CO Oh and you can pass the chill pills from time to time.

Acctually when stressed we just get together with my excellent wine making Brother in Law and have a couple of glasses of his wonderful red wine.

20. Democrats severely underestimated the power of AM Talk Radio
I knew we were in deep do do when Limpballs took over Dr. Laura's time slot.
Pure propaganda, spewed continuously.
I work in sales, and EVERYWHERE I went, nominally good working people were listening to propaganda ALL DAY LONG on the radio. Office after office, shop after shop. And there were NO dissenting voices to be heard anywhere.

Freeps were FLABBERGASTED when I spoke MY impressions out loud. They COULDN'T argue with me. They had NEVER heard another viewpoint. They DIDN'T know the facts.

A study was done that showed that FOX News Viewers were the most woefully uninformed and MISINFORMED citizens in the nation. And the more they watched FOX, the MORE MISINFORMED they were!

Cynical religious manipulation and unrelenting propaganda = Sheeple.

all of its input through the vast right wing media machine, this is the result. I'm frankly terrified that when the fecal matter collides with the air circulation device, Canada won't let us in.

Have turned a sizeable portion of the American public into little nazi brownshirts. Its sexy, its exciting, its simple, you don't have to think, just chant those fun, macho mantras, oh AND you get to hate minorities without feeling guilty...hell, you even get to go their countries and BLOW THEM UP FOR FUN.

Its pandering to the lowest levels of humanity, and Rove figured out how to do it. Worse, since the media ownership rules have been relaxed, we are screwed.
