With Delay gone, who will take his place?
Let's do like we do on GD:Politics and start throwing our opinions around! Will Roy Blunt's temporary position become permanent? Will Jeff Boehler take over? Someone else?

1. Al Capone's younger brother?
Blunt is too close to DeLay and the growing scandals.

3. As I said in my OP, I'm aware of that...
I'm just calling for speculation as to who will take the permanent position. Any thoughts?

12. I think you may be right
but . . . .

Can you imagine the fallout if he were to be forced to give up that position because of this growing scandal!!!!!

That would be a true windfall for the Dems

5. besides a potential political bloodbath?
really hard to guess. So many of the 'powerful' (as in others are behelden to them - so that they can bring some party discipline) - have some of the same problems - witness Blunt. They have already had a mini drama around Drier which included some folks, off the record, of course, refer to Drier's alleged sexuality as a problem (still behelden to the loud religious right). A smart move would be to go with a known moderate that would assuage the country and by extension make people feel a tad bit better about their own republican congressman - someone like Shays - but the powerbrokers HATE the moderates so that will never happen. Best I can do is predict a profile: relatively new to congress and unknown outside of congress; telegenic; profession not directly related to law - someone like Frist who on the senate side they jumped behind before fully vetting.

6. oooh, this could be FUN !!
An open position of power among the GOP ?
It's going to be like a frenzy of pirahna's all trying to kill each other in order to get to the prized pork chop.

7. hey maybe they'll do us a favor and pick a Hoosier
GOPer - because who ever it is will likely be taken down... not well vetted, and a media more willing to follow ethics related issues that will inevitably be just under the surfact for whoever is selected. It would be one quick way to get a wacky conservative hoosier congressman out of office. Chris Chocola anyone?

8. Nope, sorry .... Count Chocula's already on Abramoff's list ...
... he wouldn't have a chance. Same with Kittle, Mitch and Burton.

There are so many odious GOP'ers running loose in Indiana that it would be really hard to just pick one. Sodrel, maybe ?

10. nothing telegenic about Sodrel (plus he's gonna be on his way out)
there is actual begging for votes going on by Mike Pence... John Hostettler could put on quite a show... then there is "former serviceman" Steve Buyer

11. I saw that - by a single persistent poster on that thread
almost like it must be a Pence staffer or something.
