no-fly lists and other outrages
I am listening to Ring of Fire on Air America and they are talking about the no-fly lists, one of which includes those people who are against the war. This is the second time this week that I've heard about this - on The Majority Report, Sam Seder interviewed James Moore, the writer of Bush's Brain, who is also on this list. He stated that even though he has gone through the "process" to get his name off the list, he is still constantly tagged before he boards a flight. This is clearly politically motivated harrassment. Now, my question is - where the hell are the Democrats on this issue? Why haven't the Dems, including Ted Kennedy, who himself was on the list, screamed bloody murder about this? I just don't understand it. Supposedly the Transportation Security Agency will not release the names of those on the list. Isn't there any oversight of this agency? Aren't those Dems on the committee that oversees this agency allowed to see who is on this list??? Are the Democratic senators and congress people so cowed that they won't say anything about it??????? What the hell is going on???? :argh:

2. I don't know if the Dems are doing anything abou this or not,
but I have heard the agencies can't even get it together enough to have just ONE LIST!

I know the airlines have been complaining about this for a long time, and Chertoff, the FBI and the CIA were all asked how close they were to combining their info to provide just ONE list. As usual, they gave the typical non-answers.

3. the No-Fly List vs. Harrass me list

My good friend is on the less restrictive version of that list. He can't print boarding passes either. He's a network security researcher with a network security company, and has been married to an Indian woman, and travels to India alot. He has to arrive at the airport 3 hours earlier than anyone else and gets searched when he flies.

4. Our Dem leaders are impotent. Time to throw them out.
Edited on Sat Jan-07-06 08:17 PM by Neil Lisst
They got rolling for a few weeks towards the end of 2005, but they have been so weak, so useless in this fight, I want them replaced. For example, they could shut down either house of congress on procedural issues until this is addressed.

Rumor has it the list is up to 80,000 and includes anyone who is the least bit antagonistic to the Bush policies. It's a shame and disgrace that our leadership has sat on its hands while Bush turned the country into a police state.

Get off your ass Nancy, Harry, Teddy, and all you presidential wannabes! Don't tell me you want my vote in 2008. Do something now to deserve support in 2008.

I am so sick of our party leaders doing virtually nothing. Where are they?

5. Perhaps they've all been blackmailed into silence?
I'm at the point where I want almost all the elected politicians voted out.

There are a few notable exceptions who continue to fight for the American people, for truth and for what is right. The Black Congressional Caucus, Barbara Boxer, ah . . . anyone else?

6. Moores article on it . . .
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 08:30 AM by Boo_Radley

There are times in which it is easy to be suspicious. We can get to that feeling fairly quickly if we even pay slight attention. I've been trying to get over this odd emotion for at least a year. I can't find any rationale for letting it go, though I want desperately not to have these thoughts.

This week last year I was preparing for a trip to Ohio to conduct interviews and research for a new book I was writing. My airline tickets had been purchased on line and the morning of departure I went to the Internet to print out my boarding pass. I got a message that said, "Not Allowed." Several subsequent tries failed. Surely, I thought, it's just a glitch within the airline's servers or software.

I made it a point to arrive very early at the airport. My reservation was confirmed before I left home. I went to the electronic kiosk and punched in my confirmation number to print out my boarding pass and luggage tags. Another error message appeared, "Please see agent."

I did. She took my Texas driver's license and punched in the relevant information to her computer system.

"I'm sorry, sir," she said. "There seems to be a problem. You've been placed on the No Fly Watch List."

7. What, you expect the same group of people
Who can't even get it together to oppose Alito to start actually fighting back on outrages such as bogus no-fly lists? You must be under the impression that we're still living in the old American Democracy. Sorry, but this is the new American Imperialism, where the President does what he wants, and the Democrats roll over and piss all over themselves like the whipped dogs they are. Sorry friend, but it looks like we're on our own.

8. My 17 year old daughter is on it
She's a senior in high school.

apparently her name is similar to some terrorist? Read that a computer program scans the passenger lists and marks any names that sound similar to the ones they intend to flag.
