New DNC Web Video: Wiretap
Posted by Tim Tagaris on January 5, 2006 at 04:57 PM
On April 20, 2004, President Bush said, "Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires -- a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we're talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so. It's important for our fellow citizens to understand, when you think Patriot Act, constitutional guarantees are in place when it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our homeland, because we value the Constitution."

1. Good ad but still nowhere as effective as "In My Country" ad by MoveOn.
That MoveOn never ran..

2. I really like it
understated, but with a very powerful message. Also like the background music.

3. Good, except
They should have used sources besides the Post and Times. It'd be like the RNC putting up Foxnews to attack a Democrat.

4. I like the morph at the end.
I don't really see the papers as a problem.

5. Generally, they aren't
If the goal is to inform the universe of Democrats who may not be aware, it's great. If it's to pull over some swing voters, the ones who dismiss the Times and Post as liberal, it's not as effective as putting up some paper that hasn't been smeared with the liberal label. The story has run everywhere, may as well use one of their own papers to tell them about it. Sales, remove any and all objections as quickly as possible. That's all. No big deal really, but sometimes it's the little things that move people.
