DeLay's own tactics may have hurt him
The Texan's style makes him seem unconcerned over any criticism, observers say

WASHINGTON — In his nearly 20-year climb to the No. 2 job in the House, U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay has deployed a cunning and toughness that may have cost him friends but often won the battle — until now.

In his announcement that he would step down as House majority leader permanently, the vaunted counter of House floor votes may have calculated that this time, he lacked the votes to remain viable as a candidate for restoration to leadership.

In many ways, the Sugar Land Republican has been brought up short by the partisan, no-holds-barred political culture he helped create in the House, observers said.

"He shifted the game of politics from one of comity to one of ruling from an ironclad, 'with-us-or-against-us' philosophy," said Bob Stein, Rice University political scientist and pollster. "He felt you had to choose sides, and being neutral wasn't allowed. Over time, he just accrued too many enemies."

8. Clearly, his fellows in the House spent little time crying
The minute he appeared weak ENOUGH, they moved to take his little hammer away and beat him soundly over the head with it. They hesistated when they were unsure, but once the piling on began, they piled on and wasted no time so doing!!

Clearly, not a loved man. Feared, perhaps, but not loved. Even by his coworkers and cohorts....

10. Which clearly
indicates that it is better to be loved than feared. American foreign policy was once based on this simple notion. Now with the incompetent cabal of reality denying ideologues at the head of your government, the opposite, bankrupt and foolish notion of fear as better than love defines policy, and I wonder what it looks like when an entire nation gets "Delay-ized" and winds up where Ol'Hammerhead ended up? Weep for the once great nation...

1994: Elected majority whip.

1997: Among House Republicans who try unsuccessfully to oust House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a Republican.

1998: Criticized by the bi-partisan House ethics committee for "badgering a lobbying organization" after blasting an electronics industry group for hiring former Democratic Rep. Dave McCurdy as its president. Reputation as "The Hammer" grows as he consolidates legislative power and raises money for GOP campaign efforts.

2002: Elected House majority leader.

2003: At DeLay's urging, Texas Legislature changes the state's U.S. House district boundaries to elect more Republicans.

2004: Grand jurors in Texas indict three DeLay associates after questions are raised about contributions to and spending by a the Texas for a Republican Majority political action committee, founded by DeLay to help Republican candidates for the state House and Senate. Many of those candidates won and helped pass the new congressional election map.

-- Admonished by the House ethics committee for offering to support the House candidacy of Michigan Republican Rep. Nick Smith's son in return for the lawmaker's vote for a Medicare prescription drug benefit; creating the appearance of linking political donations to a legislative favor and improperly seeking the Federal Aviation Administration's intervention in a dispute over the 2003 redistricting.

6. We Won't Be Sorry To See You Go, Tom Delay
As Tom Delay awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect. He was lying on his hard, as it were armor-plated, back and when he lifted his head a little he could see his domelike brown belly divided into stiff arched segments on top of which the bed quilt could hardly keep in position and was about to slide off completely.

12. What goes around comes around, Bugman
Did you not know that?

Maybe you should've spent more time hanging with a few poor people, instead of hanging exclusively with the super-rich--because that saying is a frequent part of the conversations of poor people.

Karma is a wonderful, indestructible, force. And watching it work is the ultimate satisfaction.

I am so sorry. But you should not have abused your gift of being a bug in a human body. Maybe you will get another chance in a few billion years! Oh and watch out for those hammers.
