Might As Well Face It We're Addicted To Rush...... |
|
just heard the latest commercial for Rush Limbaugh on WLS 890 Radio in Chicago. Something to the effect - "Might as well face it we're/you're addicted to Rush." I thought wait till the Comedy Channel gets this one. Based on Rush's addiction to OxyContin - I think the people that put this commercial weren't thinking.

Did you ever know a redneck who wasn't a beer-head? K. Rush just got the high dollar rush (oops, pun).
I despise them. And I really hate that about myself. But I have to live with it.

I'll also tell you from experience that the commercial likely evoked exactly the response from you that was intended. Even commercials designed at the local level, are reviewed by writers, clients, DJs, Program Directors and maybe Station Managers. I just could never figure out how anyone could stomach Rush, even back when my views were more moderate. How can you stand to sit through back-to-back lies? It's even worse than CBN. It doesn't matter whether you agree with Rush or, say for example, Howard Stearn, they simply want listeners. May West said it best: "Just be sure and spell the name right." To listen at all puts money in the bank for them, unless you listen and then write letters to sponsors complaining about programming. That's how you hurt right-wing media. Kick them where it hurts but try not to come across as the radical left in letters. If you're religious at all, perhaps mention in a letter to a sponsor that lying is wrong and you will no longer buy products from companies that support liars.

Now it's time for you to contact that station's sponsors, especially first-time advertisers, and try coming across as religious or moral. Right-wing programming like Rush is easy to criticize on moral grounds because he is a drug-addict and lier. Don't simply attack advertisers on Rush, no marginal sponsor will advertise there. Go after other clients and site the reason as "the station carries Rush, which essentially makes the station come across as advocating drugs or lies.
