So what if Scalito got the highest grade from the ABA?
Thomas got the lowest and still was elected. Come to think about it, I think that they wanted a Thomas, or a Harriet Myers who won't be able to think for themselves and would just nod to everything Scalia says.

Hey, they may regret this nomination after all... if both Roberts and Alito will end up being independent thinkers who do not get their marching orders from Pat Robertson or whatisname.. Dobson..

Remarks by President Bush to the Press Pool
Monday January 9, 11:24 am ET

WASHINGTON, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a transcript of remarks by President Bush to the press pool:

The Rose Garden

7:52 A.M. EST

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. I just had breakfast with Judge Alito. I told him I think he conducted himself with such dignity and class in the weeks leading up to the confirmation process, which begins today. Sam Alito is eminently qualified to be a member of the bench. I'm not the only person who feels that way -- the American Bar Association looked at his record, looked at his opinions, looked at his temperament, and came to the same conclusion, that he is well qualified to be a Supreme Court judge.
