7. A legitimate question we need to be able to answer:
If the Democrats took no money from Abramoff, whose money are they returning, and to whom are they returning it?

10. They are returning money that they received from
legitimate organizations, which may have used Abramoff's services at one time or another, but which was totally legal. They are doing it as a matter of principle, not because of a legal reason. Most of them are not returning this money because there is nothing wrong with it.

18. well...
Does tis mean that bank robbers are now off the hook, if they return some of the money they stole? A double standard of justice is no justice at all.

21. your analogy doesn't hold up because here the bank would be the
one giving them the money NOT the bank robber so there is no wrong here.

22. Very poor analogy. The Dems took contributions from Jack's VICTIMS
They didn't take money from Jack, himself. The tribes gave money to Abramoff as payment for services never rendered. They contributed to Democrats and their campaigns - as they had done long before Abramoff came along. Now the tribes - defrauded for over $80 million by Jack and pals - want their money back from the repubs who stole it. The Democrats, however, received legal, open, aboveboard campaign contributions.

Forget the bank and the robber analogy. Think of Jack mugging the tribes and the tribes having donated to the Democrats. Why in the world would the money stolen in the mugging be linked to a donation?

29. to set the record straight
I wasn't talking about Dems taking money, I MEANT repukes. If I was a tribal leader and those crooks high-preasured me into a "donation" I'd give twice as much to Dems and make sure every member of the tribe voted in the elections. I'm only 1/8th Creek, so I won't speak for all Natives but I bet most of them vote for Democrats like me.

30. In that case, your analogy holds up
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 08:50 PM by txindy
Since you didn't name names in your analogy and spoke about a "double standard," I thought you meant to blame the Democrats for taking something they hadn't. Sorry about the confusion! :hi:

Yep, I'd make certain everyone voted in every election to help fight back. I just hope they can recover some of the money Abramoff and Scanlong stole from them. That is too awful, playing them off each other and taking money from every side. Unreal. :grr:

12. Returning money from Indian tribes.
Those tribes have at one point been represented by Abramoff.

That would be like returning a corporate donation after one of their contract employess was arrested.

34. The last post admits Howard Dean is right:
Unfortunately, whether Dean is a barking moonbat or not it's still clear to me that in at least one thing, he is right: Abramoff himself had deep ties to Republicans, much deeper than ties to any Democrats. His statement is techinically accurate (only Republicans took money FROM Abramoff himsef), and however much money from Indian Tribes or Abramoff clients may be tainted or suspicious, the real danger of "quid pro quo" indictments is being faced by Republicans, not Democrats. This scandal sucks. We may have to face the facts that our side will come out looking worse on this one, ......

This is just a guess, I have not researched it but figure lots of elected officials have gotten money from them. The Coushatta tribe is one of the ones Abramoff bilked out of millions.

16. So, are they admitting that Abramoff's money is tainted?
After all, if there's something wrong with a Democrat being bribed, how much worse is it for the scores of Republicans, who were actually in a position to DO something that would monkey-wrench the system?

Trying to spread the blame for their cheese is downright pathetic. It is common knowledge Abramoff gave Dems ZERO contributions.

Not to worry, the names on the indictments will settle this.

To: quefstar
Strictly speaking, I think Abramoff's personal money all went to Republicans. But that's a pittance and he couldn't bribe the local dogcatcher with $1000 every two years. The real cash is from Abramoff's clients. It's intentionally deceptive and this will backfire on Dean and the Dems bigtime.

The REAL cash is from Abramoff's clients?? and it was intentionally deceptive?? WTF does that mean? They intentionally decieved the Dems into thinking the money was legit so if and when the repugs got busted they could try to spin (blame) it on us too??? damn these freepers are STUPID!!!
