Talkin' the Talk in Texas

President Bush said Wednesday that he will ask Congress for $114 million to teach Americans little-taught languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Hindi and Farsi. The initiative is vital, he said, because "we need intelligence officers who, when somebody says something in Arabic or Farsi or Urdu, knows what they're talking about." Diplomats also need to speak the local language.

<<snip>>

I mean, somebody takes time to figure out how to speak Arabic, it means they're interested in somebody else's culture," he explained. You know, people study for years to speak fluent Texan"

16. 2006 is our only answer to bush
and his bold ideas! We MUST get the House or Senate. Then we can sack up bush and any others flaunting their powers. We need more Dems like Hackett in Ohio that speak out. Murtha has tried to get the Dems attention. But we need all of them to quit pointing their finger at the other side and speak about themselves and start talking about what is happening to this country.

We need organized poll watchers too.

7. "... years to speak fluent Texan."
Well, hell, maybe he's speaking from personal experience. From what I hear, he's still learning, apparently.

As usual, I have to wonder who's going to get this $114 million, since we already have governmental agencies to teach languages--the State Department has its own language program for those going to diplomatic posts, and the military and the intelligence services use the language school at Monterey, CA. There may be a need to expand those programs, and I could see additional funds being used for this--but only if the programs are already at capacity. This might be worth watching--just to see if the money goes to a private contractor... with Republican ties.

9. It Will Turn Out Like NCLB
Which, the last I heard, was underfunded (not to mention a total disaster). There will be 8 years of education lost to our children, because they happen to attend school under this stupid program of No Child Left Behind. George is the one who was left behind! Now, this?

Can anyone show me an example of Fluent Texan? Just a sentence would do.

17. If listening to him lately is any indication of his learning
ability, and we already know that answer, he appears to be falling apart. I can only hope he is totally losing it knowing that his crown is slipping.

11. one of my friends, who is not particularly politically savvy (although
learning, hanging around me) told me about this (I had missed the news that day) and before I could say anything, she said, "wait, I know what you were going to say--he can't even speak his own native tongue, and he wants others to learn foreign languages?" I am so proud of myself.

We HAD them. They were called "translators."

They either quit or were fired.

The whole gay thing, you know.

Do you think any of your "base" is going to belly up and help out?

Words can't describe how much I HATE this fucker.

He can't speak fluent anything.

This is your brain on drugs, kids. There's a reason he sounds more and more like Ozzy Osbourne. His brain was cooked a long time ago, and it wasn't that good to start with.
