Bush Urges Unity to Clear Hurdles in Iraq
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060110/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush

WASHINGTON -
President Bush urged Iraqis on Tuesday to put aside political, religious and sectarian differences to form a government of national unity, warning that the country "risks sliding back into tyranny" if it dwells on old grievances.

blah blah blah

Irony Alert #1
"In a free society, there's only one check on political speech and that's the judgment of the American people," Bush said. "I ask all Ameicans to hold their elected leaders to account and demand a debate that brings credit to our democracy, not comfort to our adversaries."

Irony Alert #2
The president said that "successful free societies protect the rights of minorities against the tyranny of the majority."

Wow.

2. The first point (#1) is really indicative of Bushco
Note that there is a choice given:

"I ask all Ameicans {sic} to hold their elected leaders to account and demand a debate that brings credit to our democracy, not comfort to our adversaries."

This is masterful manipulation; either support democracy itself, or comfort our adversaries. Your choice, Un-American or American.

Yet, also note that Bush says, "Compromise and consensus and power-sharing are the only path to national unity and lasting democracy".

This language itself is deliberately divisive; it suggests that cognitive dissonance (I support democracy / you're unAmerican if you don't support me) in combination with morbid fear of the unknown ("irresponsible debate") is the underlying message.

Be afraid, he says. But not afraid of me.

This language was carefully parsed, make no mistake.

3. I still don't understand it
I understand what it says and what you posted (good post BTW) but I still don't get it. This must be coded for some group of his base. Seriously this is so wildly written that that is the only thing I can come up with.
