I've found out how shallow I am..I'm for Dean, but if I were to vote for
someone else , I thought I might vote for Edwards.

I had to stop and think it through. I like him because he is good-looking. And I don't like Kerry because he is ugly (in my opinion).

There have been various studies showing how attractive people vs. un-attractive people are treated better in job interviews, getting help when needed, and so on.

Oh well, I feel better for admitting my shallowness - I wonder how many other people are the in same boat (even subconsciously - like I was?)

3. Ummmmm no,
but then Edwards looks like an aging Tiger Beat cover boy to me. so Maybe I am not the best judge of shallowness in this particular race. Attractivness is always about something besides looks to me. I think John Malkovich is the sexiest man alive. But I don't think he will be running for President too soon.

5. "aging Tiger Beat cover boy": Ouch! But you're right; if looks were it...
then Sigourney Weaver, the sexiest human alive, would be president. Not that I care that much, but I just don't think American is ready for a president with such reactionary policies on aliens.

4. Don't feel bad, it's instinctual
Even infants 3mos. old prefer attractive people. Why? Attractive people have better genetics internally as well as externally. The more symmetry you enjoy the lower your chances go for genetic disease.

It's purely instinct to want to surround yourself with attractive people because in the evolutionary lottery, they are most likely to be there for you long term.

7. oy
If we just had to compare looks here, I'd say Kerry is better looking than Dean, in a stately, older guy sort of way.

Clark is damn good looking, I say as a totally heterosexual man. :D

Edwards is cute. I don't think there's another term to describe him.

Personally, just talking style here, I think Dean would do well to get some really nice suits. Kerry could get some better ties. And Clark needs to dump the sweaters.

15. No
but there is NO RULE precluding SEX THREADS in GD04. If it were against the rules to do a sex thread in GD 04 (with all the other rules we have) you can be absolutely certain Skinner would have said so. So HAVE AT IT BABY!!!!!

16. Well, Wesley Clark is RAWTHER easy on the eyes. Edwards, too.
Howard Dean, whom I still prefer above all, is not bad, either. It strikes me, though, that Edwards is that cute boy. Clark is that handsome man.

14. I am more worried about Kerry's loss
of voice, and maybe backbone. Unless Howard Dean is in this race they'll all imitate Lieberman to some degree. (By all I mean the Fab 4).

17. Why is that shallow?
I'm still undecided, and vote Tuesday, but I'm coming to some practical conclusions.

I have reservations about each of the candidates. I try to envision the campaign with each, and anticipate the attacks and the likely public reaction.

My doubts are about electability only. I'll gladly support the nominee as I always have, and do what I can to help. I have no problem with any of them.

My main concern about Kerry is the south. Without competing hard for the south, we will have to win 70% of the remaining EC votes to win. That is a tall order and would require a near landslide in the rest of the country. That's tough, because if we give the south to the repubs by default, they will have a bigger portion of their resources to pour into the swing states.

Dean has some of the same problems, but has that outsider image and the unique energy he inspires that could appeal across regional lines. But Dean has pretty much given up on SC, and so he is unlikely to make the 15% to win delegates here (9% in last poll).

Edwards and Clark have experience issues. Edwards has the best message I've heard, but his youthful looks reinforce his lack of administrative experience. Clark has the background, but his lack of political experience shows sometimes.

Each candidate also has a lot of qualities to commend himself, of course, and I like all four finalists a lot.

I'm leaning towards Edwards Tuesday. He can win here, and is still slightly (less than MOE) atop the polls even after Clyburn, Hollings, and Fowler endorsed Kerry. Keeping the race going a while longer at least will give the later primary voters a chance to change their minds, instead of being swept up by early momentum.

19. You are right to be honest
Because people cast their vote, consciously and subconsciously, on such superficialities all the time.

I came to the realization that Kerry has more of a personality problem than I wanted to admit when I took the "who would you rather be stuck in a bunker with" poll. He came in dead last in my list, and he is my #2 choice. I just couldn't think of a reason that would make me want to spend a great deal of time with him. Even Lieberman came out ahead, because he has a good sense of humor, and I can imagine getting into interesting arguments with him.

People vote for President, in part, based on the idea that this is the guy they will have to live with for four years. He will be in your living room, on the TV, all over. Being easy on the eyes isn't such a bad thing, considering.
