Need good solid link for "No Abramoff $ to Dems"
The Penn State Collegian published an editorial saying that Abramoff is scummy. The FIRST name they listed as receiving Abramoff money? Reid. Odd, since I believe not ONE SINGLE DEM got money directly from Abramoff.

http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2006/01/01-10-06tdc/01-10-06dops-edit-02.asp

"Congressmen ranging from Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) have received money from Abramoff. The Associated Press reported that Santorum donated $11,000 connected to Abramoff to charity as result of the recent scandal. As of today, Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) has not specified what he will do with his $6,000 of Abramoff-connected money. In addition to the Pennsylvania senators, other legislators have also donated portions of their monies to charity."

I want a freaking retraction, not just another LTE - there are already to damned many central-part-of-the-state little fascists in training up there. But I need an ironclad link or source. Yes, I know Dean has done the research, but what's THE authorative source for who Abramoff has given money too

/yes, I know, if I didn't spend so damned much time in the Lounge, I'd know this.

this lists the 2002 and 2004 election cycles for all donors with a last name of Abramoff. I challenge anyone to find a single democratic recipient when the full name is Jack Abramoff.

5. Not from Abramoff or any agent of Abramoff.....
No indian tribe contributions to dems were at the behest of Abramoff. He only solicited campaign contributions from Indian tribes for repugs.

Indian tribes can donate to whomever they want. It was the Abramoff set-up that was illegal, not the contributions themselves.

6. I've been googling this, and there were donations from his firm
$6,500 from Abramoff's associates at Greenberg Taurig.

I've got NO problems with Indian tribes donating directly to Western politicians.

But why did he take money from Greenberg Taurig? Would that be considered money from Abramoff?

9. But Greenberg, Taurig has been around forever
longer than Ambramoff, and they lobby for Liberal and Conservative corps./issues. Take the time to look at who the money went to and then look at the election cycles prior to that. Has Greenberg, Taurig been giving to that individual regularly? Then there's not connection to Amramoff. The republicans are trying to play with us and we cannot let them. No Dems got Abramoff-tainted money. Make them prove otherwise.

14. Thank you - that's exactly the information I was looking for
I have NO problem with anyone taking a campaign donation from an Indian tribe, and I can argue logically with anyone who tries to tell me Reid's acceptance of Indian money is somehow "Abramoff related" But the wingnuts are spinning madly with the "Indian tribes and Abramoff's former firm" meme, and I needed to understand the second part of that.

7. There was a chart that came out when the scandal
first broke. It was even linked from Randi Rhodes site. It showed where indian tribe money went. It was very misleading on what it was showing. It sure confused me for a while. But NO Democrats took bribes from jack abramoff.

Edited on Tue Jan-10-06 07:58 PM by Carla in Ca
IT'S THE REPUBLICANS, STUPID

<http://www.nationalreview.com/lowry/lowry200601100816.asp>

snip...

The GOP now craves such bipartisan cover in the Jack Abramoff scandal. Republicans trumpet every Democratic connection to Abramoff in the hope that something resonates. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.), took more than $60,000 from Abramoff clients! North Dakota Democratic Sen. Byron Dorgan used Abramoff's skybox! It is true that any Washington influence peddler is going to spread cash and favors as widely as possible, and 210 members of Congress have received Abramoff-connected dollars. But this is, in its essence, a Republican scandal, and any attempt to portray it otherwise is a misdirection.

More.

11. Democrats need to go on TV and call those who say this "liars"...
...and use that word. Then not let it go-

"But wait, Tim/Chris/Wolf, that is a lie. Lets clear this up.

WHO told you this?

Where did you get this info?

Pardon my bluntness, but are you repeating a GOP Fax or did you make this up yourself?

Did you bother to investigate this, or does your network not employ investigative journalists anymore?

What is going on here with all these lies and liars who keep saying this? Who is paying you to repeat Karl Roves lies again?"

I'm just saying- if we dont get really Blunt and agressive about this, they will roll over us again, like always.

I'm tired of being Swift-boated- are DEMs going to punch the liars in the throat over this, or let it stand?

16. I wasn't born yesterday....and we all know K street has been
doing this for years, in fact this IS business as usual in DC. If the dems aren't defending the contributions or these statements as either true or untrue....then let me tell you. It's because there is a stink in DC....everyone's got their paws stretched out when it comes to dialing for dollars.

I have to laugh at the genius of painting the repubs with this....it's great. But I worked down there years ago, and it was NO different then. This is why term limits and publicly funded elections would do away with most of the influence peddling. I hope no democrats will get caught, but I seriously don't see a difference whether it's a client or the culprit directly paying them off. Where are the democrats asking for a change in the system?

http://www.capitaleye.org/abramoff_donor.asp

PS: Even these direct donations from Abramoff would be legal, so long as there was no 'quid pro quo'.

The tribes gave perfectly legal donations to the Democrats and to Republicans. The tribes were Abramoff's victims, he stole from them. The media, by claiming that 'Abramoff's clients' gave to Demcorats as though it were a crime, are smearing the victims. Some of the tribes' leaders have already spoken out about this.

Also when you write to them, ask them how many Democrats have been indicted, arrested, charged or convicted or are currently under investigation in the Abramoff affairs?

We do know how many Republicans are now convicted, indicted and we know that many are targets of investigations related to the Abramoff affairs.

...........

Here are just a few, we really need a comprehensive list so that each time this comes up it can just be produced. It's bound to grow, as Abramoff, Kidan and Scanlon, and others, start talking but the list can always be added to.

Convicted through guilty pleas:

Republican ~ Kidan ~ Abramoff partner
Republican ~ Scanlon ~ Abramoff partner
Republican ~ Abramoff ~ Top Republican Lobbyist
Republican ~ Duke Cunningham ~ pled guilty to crimes separate from the Abramoff affairs, but now thought to be inplicated in the Abramoff affairs.

Three mafia hitmen: Arrested and charged for the Florida murder of Gus Boulis, business associate of Kidan and Abramoff in the purchase of Suncruz Casinos. The three accused men received large sums of money as business consultants of Abramoff partner, Kidan. Kidan has been a suspect in this case, although no charges have been filed against him, yet.

Also arrested and charged in the Abramoff, Republican scandal:

Republican ~ Safavian ~ White House official.

Told they are targets of the investigation:

Republican ~ Congressman Tom Delay and his wife.
Republican ~ Rudy, aide to Tom Delay.
Republican ~ Congressman Bob Ney, and at least one aide.

Under suspicion and/or investigation:

Republican ~ Griles, assist. to Gale Norton in the Dept. of the Interior
Republican Dept. of the Interior employees, several of whom took the 5th at the Senate hearings.
Republican ~ Sen. Conrad Burns and former aide (both deny any wrongdoing)
Republican ~ Sen. Cornyn (he denies any wrongdoing)
Republican Christian Fundamentalist ~ Ralph Reed
Republican strategist ~ Grover Norquist, (Abramoff's Reed's and Kidan's mentor when they were Young Republicans in their college years).

This is just a conservative list of those under suspicion. It can be added to. I tried, but I couldn't find a single Democrat so far who is seriously being looked at for being involved, criminally in Abramoff's schemes. It could happen, but it hasn't yet, despite the media lies.

Then if you want to point out just how corrupt this party is, there are all those Republicans who have been convicted, charged, investigated in crimes other than the Abramoff affairs.

Such as:

Republican ~ Governor Rowland of Conn. serving time now for corruption
Republican ~ Governor Ryan of Illinois and several Republican members of his administration, just received a total of about 30 indictments for corruption in that administration. The prosecutor in that case is Patrick Fitzgerald.
Republican ~ Governor Taft of Ohio, convicted and paid a fine.

Republican ~ Scooter Libby, top WH official in the Valerie Plame affair, indicted on five counts.
Republican ~ Karl Rove, under investigation in the Valerie Plame affair.

Republican ~ Larry Franklin, Pentagon official, pled guilty to spying for a 'foreign nation' in the Pentagon Spy case.
Republican ~ Rosen, charged with spying for a 'foreign nation' in the Pentagon Spy affair
Republican ~ Weissman, charged with spying for a 'foreign nation' in the Pentagon Spy affair.

Currently under investigation:

Republican ~ neocon, Douglas Feith, now under investigation for possibly disseminating false information about WMD and terror connections from the OSP. Possibly as a result of his close association with Larry Franklin who is now cooperating with Prosecutors.

Republican ~ Richard Perle, under investigation by Patrick Fitzgerald in the Conrad Black corruption case in Illinois. Conrad Black, media mogul (Canada's Rupert Murdoch) was recently indicted together with co-conspirators, for corruption by Patrick Fitzgerald.

I think I will keep this list and add to it as I find more ~ that's all I can think of right now. Although I know I am forgetting a few.

Maybe if they see it in black and white, the culture of corruption in the Republican party will begin to become evident, even to those who would like to ignore it.
