Did anyone comment on yesterday's initial Alito speech?

I tuned in late yesterday and caught a brief few minute on the news when Alito was asked to speak. He looked vacant, took a drink of water, looked at a piece of paper, paused and finally began to speak. I thought it was the rudest thing I have seen in ages. Was he annoyed that he was compelled to say something? Someone fill me in on what might have happened before he spoke. Why the loooooong pause and theatrics? I may have misinterpreted this but I got home late from work and missed the hearings.

1. Alito looks and acts very medicated and detached. Another white

male in a court that doesn't represent the diversity of America. Not one hispanic, not one black female, and not one gay person on the court. What a joke our government is, it's still a bunch of white men ruling the masses because why? Because everyone is still scared of the big bad white man that kills and oppresses? I can't stand Alito, he's just an echo of the right wing agenda.
