Abramoff Scandal Threatens to Derail Reed's Political Ambitions

Jan. 11 (Bloomberg) -- The Washington scandal over lobbyist Jack Abramoff may claim a casualty outside the nation's capital: Ralph Reed, a former presidential-campaign adviser who once headed one of the U.S.'s largest Christian activist groups.

An Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll last month showed Cagle and Reed would perform about equally well against the Democrats in the November election. The poll was conducted by Zogby International before Abramoff pleaded guilty to fraud and conspiring to corrupt public officials.

Tarnished Image

Reed's image as someone more interested in Christian causes than his own financial well-being has been tarnished by a stream of e-mails released by a Senate committee that investigated Abramoff's bilking of Indian-tribe clients.

``I need to start humping in corporate accounts,'' Reed wrote to Abramoff in 1998. ``I'm counting on you to help me with some contacts.''

In 2001 alone, he received more than $2.5 million from entities connected with Abramoff and partner Michael Scanlon, according to documents released by the Senate Indian Affairs Committee.

What good is a poll if the media is biased? Reed has long been tied to Abramoff.

2. I live in Ga. and this little weasel is running for Lt. Gov in Nov.
OHHH how I hope this scandal fries him! So many Georgians automatically trust and would vote for this slime just because he was thehead of the Christian Coalition!

I've never trusted him, but he has a BIG following here. I'll be partying big time when the dirt gets finally spilled on him and he gets thrown out of politics for good!!!!

4. The polls being released now are being taken FAR TOO SOON...
It's insane that they're even taking them right now.

Polls don't mean diddly-squat and the media should just keep their big flaps shut about them.

When you look at how many things are pending, it's just mind-boggling. From Abramoff... to DeLay.. to Scooter Libby... to Karl Rove... to the spying scandal..

etc.. etc.... etc.......

Asking John Q. Public what he thinks right now ---- before the shit starts to hit the fan---- is ludicrous.

You're right ProSense. The media is showing how BIAS it is by the mere fact that they're polling people at this stage of the game.

I guess they'll do anything to make the ReTHUGS breathe easier?

5. Reed says he needs to start humping corporate accounts?
This from a supposed Christian? I don't think so.

6. I have come to realize that fundies are a bunch of perverts...
of course if I spent 23 hours a day trying to stop the "sodomites", as these freaks do, I'm sure all that repression would get me a little twitterpated too;)

8. Dictionary definition of "humping"
Slang term which makes reference to sex, the sexual organs, or matters closely related to them. In Reed's case, could his self-described desire for corporate humping possibly be indicative of a fetish for ill-gotten cash?

7. "christian" has become a word of derision
and the reason is the hypocritical people calling themselves that. Christian = follower of christ. Not many christians around by that definition. Turn the other cheek? Naw, bomb the shit out of them (bring it on). Give to the poor? Steal from the poor is more like it. Take care of the sick? Bleed the cash out of them until they die and then throw the bodies in a ditch.
I wouldn't call myself christian now if god himself asked me say it. Religion sucks.

9. I knew little Ralph was a fake when he started the Christian
Coalition. He is not and never was a Christian. The C.C. was another money sucker for he, and Fatwell. He is a cute little thing though.
