Canada: See the costing of Harper's plans and how much debt
Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 02:37 AM by applegrove
Canada will be in in 5 years.

5 Year Surplus will go from $18.199 Billion to deficit of $12.436 Billion. Unless of course they cut some social programs they have not mentioned. And will not till after the election or after their minority.

And the conservatives will have to increase income taxes to accomplish even this. Unless they cut social programs they have not mentioned. If they don't increase income taxes or cut social programs they have not mentioned, the 5 year debt will be a deficit of $42 Billion.

So if they don't raise income taxes (they are neocons) than $42 Billion of social programs will have to be cut.

Sinking us all in the bathtub. What fun!

See it here in the top right corner:

2. I watched the debate on CSPAN, and I have a question.
I'm not a Canadian but I was curious about Layton.

Is the Canadian New Democratic Party similar to the DLC here in the US?

for greatest Canadian (he won). It goes into the laws the NDP put into place, provincially or nationally (if they were part of a minory situation federally) and even though he was never Prime Minister - look at what we have because of him & his party:

go to the bottom of the link and play the tape - it is truly amazing!

How do ya like them apples!

NDP are great. They have ruled in many provincial or municipal government and they know fiscal responsibility as well as anyone (as all the left parties in the West govern fiscally moderates when they get into power these days). They make excellent federal members because they mostly have integrity and want to change the world.

Canada is an exporting nation. We rely on economics and social programs to keep our cities safe and our people educated and working. New Democratic Party is known as the "socialist" party. But mostly what they want are good jobs and a fair distribution of wealth and for the government to mitigate harsh situations and to fund training and the like for the average person.

Your Democrats are further to the right than our Liberals. So our NDP is more to the left than the Liberals. Big gap.

Because the NDP are reform minded and focus on social programs they often are looking way down the tubes for policy that is new and amazing. They are not interested in elites. They are not interested in making money.

I most often vote for them. Unless neocons threaten to win. In this election I think many are voting strategically. NDP cannot win in Quebec and some spots, Liberals cannot win in some parts of the West.
I'd be very happy with another minory of Liberals & New Dems.

If you are hoping for a left party - I don't know. In Canada the three party system meant that the Liberals (moderates) were in power most of the time. So building a third party to the left will give you moderates. If that is what you want - build it. I suspect that is what the neocons would like. And that they'll take off their batsuits and penguin suits and turn back into Liberals if that ever happens in the USA. Then most power is in the hands of the nomination of that moderate party leader. Not very democratic.

Course now Canada has 4 parties so it is all up in the air and the NDP will likely see more power than they have before. But with three parties - the far left party and the far right party are cut out.
