35. SURE TO MAKE TONIGHT'S Headlines... Maybe???
At least I think KEITH will do something!

Alito has been "skirting" for at least 2 days now, seems he's NOT exactly as accomplished at his A-One Ratings from the Bar Association have touted him to be!!

I keep envisioning him as a pubescent 15 year old even at the age of 55! Wonder what he looked and SOUNDED like at 15!! What sweet little Cherub he must have been!!

This coming from one who was brought up as a very very strict Catholic!

23. Also, Alito denied any memory of some very memorable matters.
This Princeton group he proudly claimed membership in a 1985 or so job application to the Justice Dept., was in a very public fight with the Princeton administration in 1984. Bill Bradley very publicly ended his membership in the group. There were letters to ALL PRINCETON ALUMNI FROM THE PRESIDENT OF PRINCETON CONDEMNING THE GROUP, AND A FOLLOWUP EDITORIAL IN THE WALL STREET JOURNAL ENDORSING THE PRINCETON PRESIDENT'S ACTION IN CONDEMNING THE GROUP. Alito was living in New Jersey at the time - he had to have received the letter and at least heard about the editorial. Yet he not only maintained his membership is this racist, sexist, homophobic group, but bragged about it on a job application to the Reagan administration.

19. Kennedy wants the CAP records because Alito put the org on his
earlier application to be a judge. Kennedy wants the records because the CAP org has made some extreme comments in the past. Alito claims not to remember the extremist language from CAP and he gave the OK to Kennedy to ask for the records from CAP. Specter attacked Kennedy by saying to Kennedy "You have never asked me for thsie records". Kennedy said that he had a letter right there with him that asked for that very thing. Specter went bonkers and started telling Kennedy that "he was in no position to tell him (Specter) what he has or hasn't received". KEnnedy asked for "executive session" and Specter lost it and started bellowing that Kennedy "can't tell him what to do"

21. CAP
The Concerned Alumni of Princeton (CAP) was a group of politically conservative former Princeton University students that existed between 1972 and 1986. Its main purpose was to protest Princeton's position prohibiting recruitment by the ROTC. CAP also opposed affirmative action designed to increase minority attendance at the Ivy League institution, though it supported affirmative action for athletes and the children of alumni.

The existence of the organization attracted wide notice during the nomination of former CAP member Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court of the United States, as Alito included his membership in the organization on a job application to work in the Reagan administration in the 1980s.

It's a ie. It's obviously more important for Specter to appear
adamant on TV (to the viewing sheeple) than to admit the truth.

Senators don't just drop letters into a mailbox. I delivered many
pieces of correspondence from one senator to another two years
ago... Signed, sealed, delivered, and acknowledgment receipt in hand.

Very rare for a chairman to lose temper and shout like Specter just did. And I believe any member of the committee always has the right to request they go to executive session. I think there's something rather nasty in those records, and Specter knows it.

17. Kennedy asked for a vote in closed session about issuing a subpoena
to get the CAP? records because of the discrimination involved and the inability of Alilto to remember it.

Spector objected because Kennedy had not approaced him privately. Kennedy said he sent a letter in December and and (unfortuanately said that Spector had received it). Spector went ballistic because Kennedy assumed he had received it.

Spector wouldn't allow the session.

Is that what I heard - abbreviated?

Specter in fight to chair Judiciary panel
Sunday, November 14, 2004

By Michael McGough, Post-Gazette National Bureau

Washington --

Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, the prospective chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and a supporter of abortion rights, throws down the gauntlet by warning President Bush not to nominate anyone to the U.S. Supreme Court who would reverse Roe v. Wade.

Anti-abortion groups and other conservatives launch a campaign on the Internet to remove Specter from the chairmanship before it is officially his, confident that if they succeed, the way will be clear for President Bush to begin the demolition job on abortion rights by recommending avowedly pro-life nominees.......No sooner had Specter won-re-election than he told a reporter in Philadelphia that it was unlikely that the Senate would confirm "judges who would change the right of a woman to choose overturn Roe v. Wade."

Despite a clarification in which Specter said he had not issued a warning to Bush and would not impose a litmus test on nominees, conservative and religious activists and bloggers launched a campaign to deny him the chairmanship to which his seniority entitles him.

On Tuesday some conservative groups will stage a "pray-in" in Washington as part of the anti-Specter campaign.........

Yes, there must be something to awful in those CAP records. Why wouldn't an Appellate Judge cite two memberships and then not remember anything about one of them.

I've got more stuff to remember than Alito because of age and I know what I joined and why and what they did and why I did it. Politics equates to erased memories when the stakes are this high. Maybe Graham can counsel Alito again and bring a hypnotist.

57. ANY LIBRARIANS HERE??? I have a question
It would seem to me that an agency of the government should have unfettered access to any documents stored in the LoC. Congress's library, Congress should have access to everything in there.

I realize that the Rusher papers have a codicil of sorts attached to them, requiring Rusher to approve viewing, but I should think a Judiciary Committee request should trump Rusher's desire to regulate access to the documents.

I do not know the answer to this query. I know People for the American Way have asked for access (some months ago) and haven't gotten it yet. But this stinks....

BIDEN IS GOING AFTER HIM on CAP right now...I hope his staff is paying attention and feeding him te tough questions....

Can't you just see this asshole in his future life as an SC justice?

He won't even be able to recall what he was working on yesterday. "I'd call my clerk to ask him if he's finished writing the opinion, but I can't recall my clerk's name... what're my other clerks' names? Darn... I can't recall. Wonder what's for lunch? I'd call home and ask, but I can't recall the number.... Time to go home from my first day at this job (what's the name of this job again? I can't recall)... too bad I have no specific memory of my address."

46. I felt sorry for him when he was going through the cancer ordeal
A normal person would stop and think....and be grateful they survived and try to be a better person, but not the repukes. It's as hard for them to be a nice and decent person as it is a Dem having a spine. :hi:

62. He is always pissed at Ted, because Ted is such a damn lion
...and he is so senior, he can sit his ass down at any committee he wants. Ted has more stature than the chair or even the ranking at Judiciary, in the big picture, and that chaps the shit out of Arlen. He can't be prom queen even when he throws the prom, and it pisses him off, and every now and again, it shows....!

43. WHAT IS IN THE RUSHER PAPERS that Kennedy refers to!!!
Rusher's concern with what he regarded as the liberal bias of the national media is featured in files relating to the National News Council . Correspondence, reports, minutes of meetings, and other material document the bipartisan council's work in monitoring the press and arbitrating disputes over the fairness of news stories. Also in the file are Rusher's records pertaining to the organization Concerned Alumni of Princeton documenting his objections to the intolerance by liberals of conservative views and traditional values at Princeton University and other colleges. The Subject File also focuses on conservative opinion regarding the government of South Africa and other African countries. Included are extensive files related to the American-African Affairs Association launched by conservative thinkers to counter the opposite views of the African-American Institute .

58. Specter just said he's ready to make a ruling
on Kennedy's request but waiting for Ted to return. Where's Ted he's been on lunch for a hour twenty? No, Seriously both Senators after lunch talked about CAP it's kind of setting up to be a big point.

65. Well, Specter was the source of the "magic bullet theory"
Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 03:38 PM by bobthedrummer
that "proved" Lee Harvey Oswald was the only person responsible for the assassination of Ted's brother, maybe that fact still is a dynamic-among many others.

edited for spelling

71. Senator Specter is a lying hypocrite.
I watched the video twice in MSNBC. He starts to say he did receive the letter. Senator Kennedy asks quizzically, you did receive the letter? Specter starts to attack him and say he has no way of knowing what he received. He just a second prior said he received it. I watched it again to make sure I was misinterpreting things. I was not. I am going to have to send my senator a scathing letter, for which his staffers will wait 6 months to reply to. Maybe that is the problem he needs to fire his staff, they obviously have issues delivering him his mail.
